The "Usurper"? I never understood that term when applied to Obama. He ran a campaign, was legally elected, and is now the legal president of the United States.

A usurper, according to an online dictionary, is "one who wrongfully or illegally seizes and holds the place of another ". Obama won the election, regardless of whether or not you agree with his policies / actions. How is he a usurper? And who is the supposed rightful holder of the office if not Obama?

I disagree. People in general have learned a lot from Nazi Germany. One being that a power grab by government authorities isn't usually a good thing. This is, for example, why there were protests and riots in Iran over their so-called election. The Iranian government is far more strict and authoritarian than ours.

Also, the US was born in violence against our own legitimate government. Not many colonists really stood up to England and yet we still won our independence. In the current day and age, a relatively few people united in one ideal could effectively do the same. Yes, there are those who bury their heads in the sand and allow the government to do whatever it wants, but there are many people who, if backed against a wall, would fight back.

People put way too much into the whole "mark of the beast" thing. Every single new technology or any biiometric issue ALWAYS gets pinned to the Bible.

This is a major reason why any legitimate protests against anything new get dismissed out of hand because of the "paranoid Christians".

Yes, he was. Although the REAL ID Act was more of an ID law and it was effectively nullified by the states.

The worker ID plan is almost identical to the REAL ID Act in many ways, and is likely to face the same type of political pressure by the states and people.

This is why I'm not afraid of this potential law - because it will never become a law. And if it somehow does, it will be shot down on first challenge.

That, and we actually do learn some things from history. The whole genocide thing from Nazi Germany is a very pointed lesson that we've learned well. Americans don't take kindly to being required to carry ID.

Some of us see the writing on the wall and some don't...

You seem to be a thoughtful, insightful person. Rayven and I've always enjoyed your well-reasoned posts. But, two responses come to mind: 1) I think you're putting too much credence in the idea that "it can't happen here" and 2) Some things are a matter of faith.

There have been many generations before us that thought they were the "last generation." That's not to say that certain events are not in motion, either in the big picture or a "smaller" picture. Preparation, in many ways, is the key, whether it's spiritual, or that other interesting post about being able to get your gear and get out of the house in under 30 minutes.
There have always been "sheeple," and I think there will always be.

A colleague of mine made the comment that a revolutionary uprising needs to happen for marxism/socialism/communism (Socialism is the gateway drug!!!) to take hold, claiming that such would not happen in the United States. Beware, because not all social revolutions are bloody, whether it was the rise of the Nazi regime, the American Civil rights movement, or others. I'm not disagreeing with the civil rights movement, just listing it as a social revolution. I truly believe that if the United States were to fall as we know it, it will be from within, not from the outside.

At times, I described my job as being "Nibbled to death by ducks." I say this in comparison to being thrown into a tiger cage, where you know you will be toast in seconds. Whereas the ducks, who are not initially lethal, over time will wear you down and eventually take you out with their constant nibbling away at you (and your rights). If there was a political/social revolution in this country, I think it would be the ducks, not the tiger.

I believe the term is incrementalism, and it has been going on since Washington. In the last century, the Progressives have been nibbling away, occaisionally taking a big bite. 2 steps forward, 1 step back. The conservatives call the 1 step back a victory as the Progressives hold until they can take their next nibble.
Our Founding Fathers knew power corrupts, and they knew man could not resist, so they wrote the Constitution. As far as I can tell, the whole purpose of the Constitution is to limit the power of the Federal Government.
One of the biggest problems I have with the ID (and healthcare) is if it is legal for the Federal Government to mandate we carry an ID, what else is it legal for them to mandate. Once the floodgates are open, how far will it go. Power corrupts, and our politicians are corrupt.

How many dead people voted for him, or how many times did the Dallas Cowboys vote for him? How much did Acorn influence the vote.

    How about Al Frankin?
