That might have played in a rural area with no Catholics or Jews. But, prayer in the public schools of the big cities was problematic once the Catholics and became a significant portion of the population.

For example: They kicked religion out of the Cincinnati schools in 1869's. Some folks sued to put it back, but they lost.

But of course we didn't need our Government to tell us what we could eat than either.
Show us a law you believe tells you what you can eat?

In 1960 a classmate of mine Earl Rawson brought his shotgun to school and set it in the corner with the shells in his pocket. After class he hunted rabbits on the way home.
    I can believe that.

If that happened today, the school would go into lock down, the FBI would be called, Earl would be hauled off to jail, his gun would have been confiscated, and Counselors would be called in for the traumatized students and teachers.
    Time waits for no one.

I am glad I got to live while this was still a strong Christian Country before you and your Liberal Friends have done your best to ruin it.
My view is that we ceased to be a True Christian Nation the day Congress made the law that established our duty to trust in God.

Did you know that when President Lincoln signed the bill that put "In God We Trust" on one of our nation's coins, a Presbyterian minister said it would bring the President and our nation under God's protection. That same evening, the President was assassinated.

Too bad John Wilkes Booth didn't get to Lincoln in April of 1861 instead of 1865. I lot of good American men on BOTH sides would have lived and this nation would have had a whole generation of it's young men to help it obtain greatness.

Charles, your historical recollections are very interesting, but are they accurate? Lincoln was assinated April 14, 1965 but the 2 cent coin that you are talking about was minted in 1864.

You should inclued references to your statements so that we can look at the evidence for ourself. Otherwise, you statements will be simply relegated to myth without evidence of their veracity.

As far as public prayer, it was completely legal until 1962 Engel vs Vitale. There have always been enemies of the cross of Christ, but their presence in this nation does not in the least diminish the fact that America was founded and lived as a Christian nation until the 1960's intruded.

Plus 1. I do not know what Cincinnati did or did not do but I can tell you we not only had a moment of prayer in the morning before school started but also a Bible verse. Of course we also had some teaching on the Constitution during the school year and said the pledge of allegiance every morning.

Nope, you're wrong. It was prohibited in some States. In other states it was left up to the local school districts. In some cases it was left up to the teacher.

The enemies of Christ are the ones who encourage or permit the civil magistrate to trespass on his authority over his religion.

America was founded and lived as a Christian nation
The Constitution says nothing whatsoever about the U. S. being a Christian Nation.

Congress passed a law in 1865 that granted the director of the mint authority to put the motto on all new coins if he wanted to. I was wrong about the date Lincoln signed the bill. He signed it about five weeks before he was assassinated.

The practice of reciting the Regents prayer, which was at issue in the Engle case, had been adopted by the school district just "shortly" before the law suit was filled. The Regents only recommended the practice. Only one school district in the entire State of New York had actually adopted the recommendation.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under god.with liberty and justice for all.

this is what I was taught, this is what I believe. what good did taking god out of the class room acheive? why would liberals want to take away the pledge? Is it because libretards want a different flag or is it half a century of wishing we were Canada.

Really? Do you think that I have any fear of posting anything? I'm pretty sure that I am also protected under our constitution of freedom of speach. So I can make any statement I want about religion, also incorporating my freedom from religion right as well. I have as much fear of the wrath of some crazy religious nutjob muslim, etc, as I do in going to hell. Oh wait they are just about the same thing anyway, execpt that maybe recent events prove that the muslims usually follow through with their threats. (I'll also avoid the point that since there hasn't been any other religions spokespersons stepping up here, that any other attempt at humor toward a different religion would probably fall short anyway.)

Of course maybe I could pick apart your statement, and say that I'm sure their are many other religions that I can insult without consequences. Or that by insulting your religion that I would be threatend with an eternity in hell... IF god made us, then he also made us as to be curious, and to question the things around us. So why would he get mad at us if we do act upon our "god given nature"? We are supposed to believe some book says to believe? I think I will question that as well.

And, I dont insist that you act as respectful christians... I guess I prefer it though, because I know that you guys have a pretty shady history of violence toward non-believers, anyway. No need to have any more violent religious believers...

Oh yeah, I'm sorry if you did not get, or understand my humor. But, just believe that its there, then it will be.
