Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

The Christianity we have today based on the preserved word of God is the same as it was nearly 2000 years ago my friend. Most people that claim to be an authority on a subject actually know something about that subject. Not sure why you feel you must continually show off your ignorance of what the Bible really says, but so be it, it is a free country.
Oh I stand corrected! So I guess you christians are still stoning people, burning witches at the stake, crucifing people, killing, raping and murdering non-believers, not allowing your women to speak, hating homosexuals... I'm sorry I was under the impression that had changed

But, you see those bigots based their perspective from the same bible that you read from

Or maybe its going on tv and trying to get as much monetary donations as possible, so the preacher can affored his 5000sqft house, and his new porsche
Or is it the oppression and destruction of all non-believers

It appears you don't understand the Bible any more than those bigots did either. Killing, raping, maiming etc not the message I get from the Holy Bible my friend.

You simply don't understand what you talk about. Once again, you really should have paid more attention in church.

But then again, something being based on a principle, is different than being based off an actual religion. I'm sure that the christian faith that was followed 200 years ago, is quite a bit different than the christian faith(s) that is followed today.

Oh yeah, and welcome to the forums!
Thank you for your kind welcome.

Could the bible have been rewritten to suit someones agenda? Of course. But was it? I and millions of others are convinced that it is truth. Not just truth, but true truth. Truth, but not exhaustive truth. Scripture is the most thoroughly vetted book in existence. Do I take everything in scripture literally? No. For example, In six days God created the universe. Yes, six of his days. Not days as we measure them today. Scripture is God's letter to us to tell us enough about himself to decide on whether or not to follow him. The biblical cannon is a study in itself.

The mainstream churches today have drifted from what they were two hundred years ago. That's why they are losing membership. They support liberal agendas that are not based on scripture. Frankly, I think separation of church and state works both ways. The state should stay out of the church agenda and the church should stay out of politics. The rules that govern the two spheres are exclusive and do not apply to one another. For example, the Methodist church should not have come out in favor of Obama's health care bill. Compassion after all, is voluntary, not mandatory. Compassion is personal. One on one. A personal decision. Most certainly not one that can be forced on people without dire consequences and resentment. For exapmple, if my children or grand children need health care, I should help pay for it if needed. I certainly do not expect you to pay for it.

Lastly, do people use scripture to support agendas that suits them? Sadly, all the time. Even ministers and pastors from the pulpit. That's why I have spent years studying scripture to find out for myself what God wants from me. Do not totally rely on an intrepreter. Buy a good bible. I suggest the NIV version with commentary. Read the book of John first to find out what Christ meant. Then read the book of Romans to find out what the church should be like. It should be the basis for theology in the world today.

Small non affiliated churches are the most likely to preach and follow scripture in the way that Christ meant. That's why they are growing.

I am getting too verbose and will close for now.

Thank you for you input. You seem to have a level head on your sholders, and I appriciate the fact that you jumped into this conversation, simply stating a few of your beliefs without trying to preach them, nor did you try to come into the conversation with the intent to ridicule, or insult anyone without your same beliefs.
Once again thank you for that.

I completely agree with your statement of the church and state seperation, should work both ways. There is no reason for a religious system to be involved with the swaying of its following, towards a political backing. Religion is and should be a personal choice between you and the deity of your choosing. Just like that of politics, its up to the individual to decide what he/she wants to vote for according to their own personal beliefs.

    These don't change my Friend.

    1. "I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me..."
This commandment is to believe in the existence of God and His influence on events in the world.
    2. "Do not make an image or any likeness of what is in the heavens above..."
This prohibits the construction or fashioning of "idols" in the likeness of created things (beasts, fish, birds, people) and worshipping them.
    3. "Do not swear falsely by the name of the LORD..."
This commandment is to never take the name of God in a vain, pointless or insincere oath.
    4. "Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy" (the version in Deuteronomy reads shamor, "observe")
The seventh day of the week is termed Shabbat and is holy, just as God ceased creative activity during Creation.
    5. "Honor your father and your mother..."
The obligation to honor one's parents is an obligation that one owes to God and fulfills this obligation through one's actions towards one's parents.
    6. "Do not murder"
Murdering a human being is a capital sin.
    7. "Do not commit adultery."
Adultery is defined as sexual intercourse between a man and a married woman who is not his wife.
    8. "Do not steal."
    9. "Do not bear false witness against your neighbor"
One must not bear false witness in a court of law or other proceeding.
    10. "Do not covet your neighbor's wife"
One is forbidden to desire and plan how one may obtain that which God has given to another.
“Every step we take towards making the State our Caretaker of our lives, by that much we move toward making the State our Master.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower
