FYI. Take special note of "Past Actions" section.

Yeah, but that's just on the Immigration issue. While that's important to me, I don't feel it's #1. My priorities are so close that I can't actually put them in any order - I just tried. My #1 would look something like Strong Conservative Posture/2nd Amendment/Border Security/Tax Reform. Personally I couldn't care less about Universal Healthcare...I think it's a Socialist-concept trap. While I'm against the war (who the hell is for "war"?) I strongly support the troops and our commitment to our promises. This is going to be a hard choice, but I still feel, for me, it may end in Huck over Romney.

...if only Ron Paul wasn't so much of a loose cannon.

I asked myself the same question.. So I sent Mitt Romney an email and asked him his stand on the 2nd amendment. This is the answer I got: I thought it was a good answer. What does eveyone else think?

    Dear XXXXX:

Thank you for contacting me about the important issue of gun ownership and the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. I appreciate your interest in my campaign for President and would like to extend my sincere gratitude for taking the time to share your views with me.

I support the Second Amendment as one of the most basic and fundamental rights of every American. It’s essential to our functioning as a free society, as are all the liberties enumerated in the Bill of Rights. I am proud to be among the many decent, law-abiding men and women who safely use firearms.

I firmly believe in the importance of responsible gun ownership and sales. I recognize there are people in this country who want to remove all guns in our society and I think they’re wrong. Washington needs to distinguish between law-abiding gun owners and criminals who use guns. Those who use a firearm during the commission of crime must be punished severely. The key is to provide law enforcement with the resources they need and punish criminals, not burden lawful gun owners.

As Governor of one of the most liberal states in the country, I stood up for the rights of gun owners and sportsmen over burdensome bureaucratic regulation. I advanced legislation that expanded the rights of gun owners in my state and I’ve been proud to have the support of pro-Second Amendment and sportsmen’s groups in my previous runs for public office. I also designated May 7 as “The Right to Bear Arms Day” in Massachusetts to honor “the right of decent, law-abiding citizens to own and use firearms in defense of their families, persons, and property and for all lawful purposes, including the common defense.”

One of the most active fronts in the fight to preserve our Second Amendment rights today is being waged in the courts. As President, I’ll appoint strict constructionist judges who will follow the Constitution and not legislate from the bench. I’ll also fight to repeal the McCain-Feingold law, which sought to impose restrictions on the First Amendment rights of groups like the National Rifle Association, to advocate for issues we care about.

I am running for President because I fervently believe that I have the experience and vision to address the issues facing our country. Throughout my years in both the private and public sectors, I have been successful by pursuing innovation and transformation. If there ever was a time when innovation and transformation were needed in government, it is now.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Please feel free to visit my website at www.MittRomney.com for updated information on Second Amendment rights and other issues that may be of interest to you. I look forward to hearing from you in the future, and earning your support.
    Sincerely,
When I retire I am going to move up North and drive slow!!

  5. Unfortunatley I'm back to the usual, trying to decide the lesser of evils, rather than voting for a candidate I truly believe in.

Not sure if this is the same one but I took one a couple weeks back and came out with 97% Ron Paul.

I think, more than being interested in his views on gun control, or his "support" of the Second Amendment, would be to try to pin him (or any of these political mannequins) down about what they plan and promise to DO about reinforcing and Guaranteeing our Rights under 2A should they be honored by being elected.

    The Letter:
    Dear :

I am a staunch Conservative and a registered Republican. I am deeply interested in ensuring that the right Republican candidate for President gets my vote, both in the New Jersey primary as well as in the General Election.

Needless to say, my Constitutional Rights generally, and my Rights under the 2nd Amendment specifically, are very important to me.

I have listened and investigated and checked all the candidates for their stand in this regard. So far, all I have heard from anyone is that they “support” the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and defend the individual’s right to this freedom. I’d like to know more.

Could you please tell me, clearly and unequivocally and in plain language, what you plan to do about reinforcing and guaranteeing this very important Right?

For example, would you direct your Attorney General to declare that the 2nd Amendment is an Individual Right, and actively pursue those individuals and States that would enact rules and legislation which would deny that Right?

Would you make a Presidential declaration that supports the 2nd Amendment as is was intended and promote a National “Shall Issue” policy?

Perhaps there is some other, more insightful position that you have in mind which you could share. I would be most grateful to hear your response so that I can more easily defend among my peers my intention to vote for you.

I am a Life Member of both the National Rifle Association and the Gun Owners of America, a Veteran, a Mason, and a member of the American Legion. I am also an active participant of a variety of firearms-oriented message boards. There are at least dozens, if not hundreds, of brothers, members and friends who would enjoy hearing your answer to these questions. I will be posting this letter and the fact that I’ve sent it to you. I assure you they will all be eagerly awaiting your response.

Thank you for your time, for your service to our Country, and for your prompt and considered attention. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Respectfully and Sincerely,

    [Me]

To Romney (limited to 500 characters) I sent this, abbreviated version:
Could you please tell me, clearly and unequivocally and in plain language, what you plan to -do- about reinforcing and guaranteeing my Rights under the 2nd Amendment? For example, would you direct your Attorney General to declare that the 2nd Amendment is an Individual Right? Would you make a Presidential declaration that supports the 2nd Amendment as is was intended and promote a National “Shall Issue” policy? Thank you.

    Thumbs up

I will save you all some time on who the best Second Amendment Candidate is and who has always been this time around...

Mike Huckabee is the only candidate running from any party with a perfect second amendment support record. Moreover, Mike Huckabee has the highest combined rating from the NRA A+ and the GOA A- of any canidate running from any party. Further the NRA & GOA are the two biggest pro-gun lobbyists in the country if not the world.
Additionally, Mike Huckabee is the only canidate running from any party for President that has a CCW; and was the first Governor in the United States to have a CCW.
    http://gunowners.org/pres08/huckabee.htm
    http://www.nra.com/

"Its time we started giving the second amendment the same attention we give the first amendment" - Mike Huckabee

What democrats running for president have a proven record of selling us out on the second amendment?
    ALL OF THEM.

What republicans running for president have a proven record of selling us out on the second amendment (while hypocritically claiming to support it)?
    Mitt Romney
    Fred Thompson (withdrew)
    John McCain
    Rudy Giuliani
    Ron Paul
    Tom Tancredo (withdrew)

Whose been a member of the NRA the the longest of any canidate? Mike Huckabee - over 4 decades, the shortest? Second Amendment Sell-Out Mitt Romney - August 2006 just months before announcing he was running for president...

Check for yourself... and see whose spinning and whose NOT!

Here are a few more bonuses...

Mike Huckabee is rated "Excellent" by Roy Beck & NumbersUSA and the Citizens for Better Immigration Reform...

Mike Huckabee is the only candidate running from any party that has signed a "No Amnesty Pledge":
“Every candidate claims to oppose amnesty, but few define amnesty the way most Americans do,” Beck said. “I applaud Gov. Huckabee for defining amnesty correctly, and for pledging to fully enforce laws that would take away the jobs and benefits magnets that draw illegal aliens here – and that keep them here.

While all the democrats have promised to raise taxes and entitlements for all (tax & spend the democrat way and their version of CHANGE); and all the republicans except Mike Huckabee have promised to cut a tax or two; Mike Huckabee would ABOLISH THE IRS! utilizing the M.I.T., Harvard, Yale and Stanford engineered Fair Tax Initiative; educate yourself on the Fair Tax Initiative:
    http://www.fairtax.org/

Read the Fair Tax Book by Neal Boortz & Congressman John Linder.

Who is the only canidate running for President that has actually faced the Clinton Political Machine and defeated it?
Only Mike Huckabee has faced the Clinton Political Machine and defeated them soundly every time, 4 times in all.

Regarding the foreign policy experience of Governor Mike Huckabee, whom has actually been to 41 countries and dealt with their governments...And those whom would doubt the foreign policy experience of the only multi-term Governor running for President from any party; I would ask that you to go back to 1980 and look at Ronald Reagan, whom everybody seems to want to be like these days...When Ronald Reagan ran for President in 1980 he had absolutely no substantive foreign policy experience! Yes Ronald Reagan did some great things, but lets not forget that he also sold us out on amnesty, the second amendment and the stinking free trade agreements! I myself do not want that kind of politician BACK!...check out http://www.mikehuckabee.com...

No Senator has been elected president since JFK,
No Representative has been elected president since James Garfield (before 1900),
No Mayor has ever been elected president...

There is a reason why 4 out the last 5 presidents have been governors, experience counts! the office of the president of the united states is not a on the job training position...

Governor Mike Huckabee has more executive experience actually running a government then any canidate running from any party...

    Where do we stand?
Governor Mike Huckabee currently is second in the delegate race, with 40 pledged for
his campaign. Governor Mitt Romney has 59 delegates, and Senator John McCain
    has 36.

Duncan Hunter - recently withdrew and endorsed Mike Huckabee, most if not all of Duncan's delegates have gone to Mike Huckabee (not included in the previous 40)... As part of the grassroots for Huckabee, we are hoping that when Mike Huckabee gets the nomination that he asks Duncan Hunter to be his running mate, they complement each other very well...

Mike Huckabee is the most Authentic, Consistent, Compassionate, and Experienced canidate running for President from any party.
