The nuclear weapons issue is a very complex international diplomatic dilemma. I would not presume to oversimplify that or suggest I know anything about how Iran's relationship with Russia affects North Korea. I'll leave that to Billary, Gawd help us all.

Basically for us now it has turned into a quality vs. quantity issue. We defeated The Soviet Union in the Cold war by producing enough weapons in the arms race to economically cripple them. Now, with all those weapons aging and incurring increased maintenance costs, that very same issue is crippling our own military. A nuke that cannot be relied upon is no better than a pistol that fails to feed - basically worthless. We need a new generation warhead. There's only so much money to go around. The Russians know this as well as we do. I shudder to think what the conditions are in some of their weapons bays and silos.

    More is not always better.

This will not be in keeping with the other post but because of the contentiousness of some of them I wanted to say this.

I always enjoy reading the diverse opinions that abound here. Most I agree with and will stand with you to defend them. Some I complelety disagree with but will stand with you for your right to express yourself. However as we go into tomorrow let's remember those who have made it possible to have our own opinions and be able to express them. Although this is our GOD given right it is protected by those who have the selfless integrity to stand up and secure those rights for us.

To those who have severd, who are serving, and who will serve, I want to say a very deep heart felt Thank-You. May GOD go with you and protect you.

But this comment is totally diofferent then what you stated earlier. You are talking about reducing the nukes we have in your earlier comment:

This is pretty much all bald-faced lies. Reducing the nuke count has many benefits for the U.S. and the world at large. It saves a boatload of money maintaining aging weapons there are no spare parts for anymore. It enables needed modernization for the old ones we keep in service and a new program to build a modern warhead for the future.

And now you are talking about upgrading our nukes. So which is it REDUCING ort UPGRADING?

Both. Eliminating maintenance cost by retiring some frees up money in the budget to modernize the ones that are left.

Hey Y'all: The dirtbag is either completely ignorant of the real world, as he lives and breathes in Alice & Wonderland as he thinks nicey, nicey, kissee, kissee, goochie, goochie will get him somewhere with a dirtbag world and the UN, or he is an out and out traitorous, moslem, Manchurian Candidate, socialist/fascist (take your pick) who definitely wants to destroy this country for his "devout" peace-loving brethren. There are no other alternatives to think about when you try to figure Mr. Dirtbag out. What gets me is the hundreds of dems in Congress who have abdicated their responsibilities to their electorate and go along like sheep (without even reading the damn bills) with this dirtbag solely because they are dems and don't have the guts to stand up for America--for the democratic party-yes; for America-no. Despicable and disgusting.

I've been trying to find out what this treaty actually says with some difficulty. Everything I can find shows it as not eliminating testing, the continuation of missile defense systems or anything about veto powers. When it comes to the U.N. Russia and the U.S. both have veto authority. I do believe the treaty should be read by all before any attempt at ratification. The following is the best article I could find concerning the treaty:
