Thread: Is the NRA Still Worth Supporting?

  1. #11
One question: if you lived in Nevada, would you vote for Harry Reid just because he supports the 2nd Amendment? Especially since the other candidates, especially Sharron Angle, also support the 2nd, along with the rest of the Constitution.

I could care less that the NRA is a one-trick pony, that all they care about is guns. If they do not stand for all our freedoms when a person they support does not, then it's time to put my support elsewhere. I have e-mailed the NRA about this and am still waiting for a reply. If I do get one, it will be posted up here and in the other gun forums I frequent.

And sorry I misspelled Wayne LaPierre's name. It was truly a typo.

I think these day GOA, Second Amendment Foundation. and JFPO do a better job of fighting the gun grabbers than the NRA. These groups seem less willing to compromise. IMHO.

What does NFA and GOA stand for? I think JFPO is Jewish Firearm Protection Organizxation, or something close to that.

That's why it is IMPERATIVE we vote the current administration out in November in the House and Senate. If the Republicans can get a majority, or break up the Democrat majority, we can get a lot of this socialist attitude and laws stopped and reversed...like the Healthcare Law.

JPFO = Jews for the Protection of Firearm Ownership. They haven't forgotten ... "Never again"!!!!

DH and I are members of BOTH the GOA and the JPFO. While we're still members of the NRA, don't know if we'll renew or not. Have to do a little more investigating before reaching a decision on that! We DO enjoy their publications. DH receives American Rifleman with his membership and I get American's 1st Freedom with mine!

The job of the NRA is to support the 2nd Ammendment, and the candidates that support it. It's not the NRA's job (or core compentency) to make decisions on who is best for the environment, the economy, immigration, etc. They present the candidate that supports their platform, and the voter has to be smart enough to balance everything out and select the candidate that he or she likes the best (or dislikes the least).

That said, if the NRA doesn't stop calling me for money every Saturday while my baby is asleep I'm going to look for another group to support.

A friend of mine (Viet Nam Combat Vet) was considering joining the NRA until he got a phone call one night from a guy that wanted him to join - the caller was insistent he get the lifetime membership and became a little rude. Bottom line he said no to joining because of that. I wrote to the NRA about the over zealous phone soliciter, figuring he was contracted and with a company that did this. Never got a reply.

I have 1 1/2 yrs to go on my membership - will I continue? Hmmm

Harry Reed has been supporter of gun rights. Having said that, I do believe he will go any way the administration wants him to go. As a possible excuse for the NRA their sole issue is supporting the 2A. The real sad part of this is that , if it is true they support Reid, is that they don't have confidence in the Republicans choice to preserve our 2A rights. As they say "what's up with that?"

Just because Reed may may or may not support the 2nd Amendment is not reason in and of itself to support him. There are a lot of important issues to consider including the 2nd Amendment. Nevada can do much better. They need to elect someone who supports the whole constitution. A real patriot.
