The left can not handle any kind of opposition. They have to control everything.

For those interested in an opportunity to learn more about Ham radio, this Saturday (& into Sunday morning), the 26th, is the Amateur Radio Relay League's annual Field Day. Individuals and club all over will be setting up and conducting field exercises.

Check here for more details and use the Locator to find a site near you. Field Day

It's also an opportunity to get on the air yourself, since most hams are glad to share their hobby.

Hey handgonnetoter: Your comments are right on! I wake up everyday and everyday some new crap comes out from the piece of garbage in the whitehouse and the slime dems in congress. They crap on me, my family, my neighbors, and my country. HATE is really not a good-enough word to describe my feelings and I am sure yours. Loathe, despise, hold in contempt--those are closer. It is not the right thing to say but I honestly have thoughts of their demise and feeling better when I think that way. Right now, with what is going on, I can hope that someone like General McChrystal will get fired and has the patriotic vigor to begin his campaign for the 2012 Presidency. Odds are the piece of garbage in the whitehouse will not fire him remembering the old adage--"keep your friends close and your enemies closer". At least having someone like McChrystal stand up and get counted gives me hope that his can do type of personality can undo what this piece of garbage has been doing--face up to our war problems, negate most of these degrading socialist programs, and return this country to sanity

Well I asked the question not out of ignorance but because I wanted to see what reasons I would get. On the one hand I do feel it is all about control! I would therefore have to agree with HK4U and Conservative wife and Mom ( Wouldn't dare disagree with her ) Now on the other hand my son -in - law has his own IT company and servers and I think he would more likely agree with Cocked and Locked... I do believe that he (C&L'd) has a point.
Even if the truth is somewhere in between abuses and mal intentions are, if not likely, possible. Thw ham radio might be good advice just in case.

I just read the summary of the bill and scanned through the actual bill. If it weren't for the fact that they are trying to give away about a $Billion it would be a joke. The shutting down of the Internet isn't really a problem as it actually isn't in there but with what all is in this bill they really could screw things up for Americans. They are thinking that they can control the Internet but since they only could control the part that is in the US our Government has no control whatsoever over the Internet outside of our borders. If you want to really take control of the Internet all you have to do in find the 16 root servers and knock them our of commissison. BTW they are not all in the US and few people actually know where they are.

It is a nice thought that they want with this bill but it is definitely written by someone who does not have clue as to what the Internet really is. For my last comment, why is everyone getting so excited about this now when the bill was introduced over a year ago?

Just thought I would add that there hasn't been an Internet Backbone for over 15 years. I still keep hearing that term used but there is no such thing, Now Internet2 does exist and if you can get on it more power to you.

Kinda like China isolates large parts of their network?

Actually, no. China doesn't shut anything down. They just filter content.

The "shutting down the Internet" part is the grand leapt-to conclusion the FUD mongers want you to see and incorrectly interpret as a sinister gubmint power grab. This can in fact and all practical reality NEVER HAPPEN. Why you may ask? because U.S. Internet interestes both public and private no longer represent the lion's share of the network like they did at one time. Haven't for years. Even if every U.S. owned and controlled Internet Service Provider did shut down, it would do nothing more than simply isolate large portions of the network centered around North America. Because that's how it was designed by DAPRA back in the 60's: To survive a nuclear holocaust. So any arbitrary shutdown would be kind of like cutting off your nose to spite your own face.

What this legislation is intended to do is give the U.S. Military, Northcom in particular, authority to PROTECT portions of the Internet essential to conducting national security information operations. And believe me, the corporate and private operators are all for it. What's that, FREE technical support? Yeah, baby!!!

I guess according to COCKED AND LOCKED, I'm a FUD.

Be careful, people like COCKED AND LOCKED will be calling you a FUD too. By the way, what is a FUD? Might just as well spell it out as to use a acronym to describe what one is trying to say.

No, that would be kelcarry as the OP of this thread. And in the context of this discussion, the term for him would be "FUD Spreader."

Fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) is a tactic of rhetoric and fallacy used in sales, marketing, public relations, politics and propaganda. ...

I just think it's funny how this stuff keeps coming up over and over again, I suppose in the hopes there's still someone out there living in a cave or in a shack in the backwoods somewhere who just got a satellite Internet connection and missed it the first 15 times it went around.
