    WAL,

in point of fact, anybody who reveres FDR is either a cretin, a blind fool or a DAMNED SOCIALIST. - pardon me but i choose NONE of those pitiful creatures as a person to whom i would trust my freedom & that of the USA.

on his best day FDR, the ELITIST/SOCIALIST/would be dictator was NOT half as DECENT/GOOD a man/a LEADER as REAGAN was on his worst.

as for me & my house, we choose LIBERTY. - furthermore, if you have a DIMocRAT elitist for a friend, you don't need an enemy.

    just my opinion.

    yours, TN46

This concept only works if people are treated as, and allow themselves to be treated as bees, ants or termites. The USSR tried this in the 1920's and it didn't work.

One of the cornerstones of the organization's findings is the fact that many of the dysfunctional behaviors of today's society stem directly from the dehumanizing environment of a monetary system.
Do away with reimbursement for work done and you arrive at "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs." -Karl Marx

I prefer "Capitalism demands the best of every man—his rationality—and rewards him accordingly. It leaves every man free to choose the work he likes, to specialize in it, to trade his product for the products of others, and to go as far on the road of achievement as his ability and ambition will carry him. His success depends on the objective value of his work and on the rationality of those who recognize that value. When men are free to trade, with reason and reality as their only arbiter, when no man may use physical force to extort the consent of another, it is the best product and the best judgment that win in every field of human endeavor, and raise the standard of living—and of thought—ever higher for all those who take part in mankind’s productive activity." - Ayn Rand, someone who personally experienced the utopia your rose colored glasses show you.
    +1 thank you.

BHO and Jimmy Carter have to be probably the most naive presidents in American history. And stupidly stubborn! Carter was an American who I think still loved his country, but Obama? Not hardly. Obama is dangerous and needs to be voted out in 2012.

    Caution not PC

I'll use the fact that I am on drugs for a major asthma attack for this post.

Any sitting POTUS IMHO has no right to allow his advisers to demonize persons of other races to promote his or her agenda.
Carter was wrong in many ways but I truly don't believe he used race baiting. Things went bad for many of us but it was not because of deliberate hatred of others. Yesterday BO told the people of Africa that
terrorists are racist because they (the terrorists) are targeting blacks in Africa. What about the TERRORISTS that are targeting those here is the USA and the rights of non-blacks to be safe.
BHO IM(not so)HO is doing everything he can do to race bait, cause problems between religious and non-religious (pitting one persons right against another's rights), pushing an agenda that 60% or more of the American people feel is wrong, placing people with extreme social views in places of power with no oversight and
not being truthful in some areas such as taxing the mid-class. (Fed funded abortion is another example but that belongs on another forum)
Not enforcing existing laws that protect our security.Taking to task the STATES that enforce Federal laws on immigration and allowing other STATES/CITIES to refuse to enforce those same laws. Being selective in the Constitutional rights of the people. Playing golf while the Gulf is drowning in oil and complaining when BP people are doing the same thing.
In the past there have been problems between people. We could talk about them or not. We tended to keep private things private and mostly the term "live and let live" was how the vast majority of people quietly lived. When we learn how to do this again and look at the the moral and public actions of our LEADERS as an example of what we want our COUNTRY to be then and only then will things return to sanity.

    Hey All,
I'm glad so many of you went to the site I posted and read a bit of it. Thanks, it makes me feel like the Johnny Appleseed of the left on this forum. Some seeds will germinate; it just takes a little well reasoned thought on your part. Eventually the conservative point of view will evolve. That is the way evolution works!
Anyway, about the "isms"...Socialism, Capitalism, (Marx and Rand respectively [here's a tired pair]), Yeah, both have their good points and both have flaws (especially Rand. I always thought she was angry about a lot of things and it clouded her POV. Marx was kinda funny, he reminded me of a hippy who, at the end of the day, just wanted everyone to surf with him. Wouldn’t that be the life! Hell Yeah!) But I tend to think Socialism is a little closer to the truth of human nature because of its overall end goal: securing the freedom (very liberal use of the word “freedom” here) for the group as opposed to the end goal of capitalism that is securing the freedom for the individual. (Please, let’s not get sidetracked by my use of the word “individual” here. Yes, I know it is used over and over again in the documents that were written over two hundred years ago at the founding of this country blah blah blah, but that is not the point here, that is a different subject altogether. Let’s stay focused). We don’t live as a single entity; we live as part of a greater group of people. The nature of Capitalism (and A.Rands thinking), if you follow it thru, tends to put this fact low on the list of considerations while forming its "ism" and that is simply a mistake. It doesn’t speak to the truth of being human. We are social! “Social” being the key word here. Socialist simply acknowledges this and allow this fact to direct their thinking. That is what Marx did and Rand failed to do. She, like many conservatives due to stubbornness and fear of the unknown, fail to see this truth. (Considering her personal history, I can see why she was filled with fear.) Poll after poll will suggest that all Americans want all others to be healthy, happy, wise and fed. That is the socialist mindset of sharing. The capitalist mindset is hoarding.

Wellarmed...the main difference between socialism and conservatism is that socialism MANDATES charitable giving (working class made to pay taxes to care for the less fortunate) while conservatism views charity as a gift from the heart and leaves it up to the churches, individuals and charitable organizations to look after the downtrodden in society. The government can not mandate charitable thinking any more than it can mandate morality. These two issues have to come from the individual conscience/heart/soul. It hurts everyone to tax in order to give to the poor. That only results in everyone's standard of living being lowered. That, in turn, squelches the drive to better oneself (why work so hard when the government takes it all and gives it to others?) and kills the entrepreneurial spirit...the very spirit that was behind the inventions that have contributed to better lives for all of us. It never ceases to amaze me how liberals can't understand this.

Mom, liberals do understand this, they understand this better than you do, this is part of their agenda.

    Mom,
I think I understand what you are trying to say, but let me help you understand what you want to say: Socialism and Capitalism are forms of a government philosophy. Conservatism and Liberalism are not forms of a government philosophy, but are terms used to describe a government philosophy (in this case). “A liberal capitalist” or “a conservative capitalist” are two examples. So to say “the main difference between socialism and conservatism” really makes no sense. You are comparing a philosophy with a description of that philosophy.
Don’t feel bad about your mistake, I see that kind of stuff all over this forum.
Maybe you can repost what you really wanted to say. I look forward to it.
