    How 'bout some Jefferson quotes

Here is just one--anyone have a favorite to share???
"[A] wise and frugal government ... shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government." --Thomas Jefferson

...as to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this
gives a galaxy moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise,
and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others
of that nature, are too violent for the body, and stamp no character
on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your
    walks...

Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because if there be one he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 10, 1787

"Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion."
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. - Carl Sagan .When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours - Stephen Roberts

"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ...
And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
    It is its natural manure."

Gee that sounds a lot like Ben Franklin's quote...

They who can give up essential Liberty to obtain a little temporary safety,
    deserve neither liberty nor safety.

    Interesting...
I wonder which one them actually quoted first, because they certainly do say the same thing using different wording.
    Hmmm... who copied whom?

OK, so research didn't seem to take long.
Turns out that the original quote was Ben Franklin and Tom Jefferson copied and modified it later.
source: who said first Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson "Those who desire to give up Freedom in order to gain Security, will not have, .."
