    Predicting Americas Collapse.

Its the unthinkable. Yes, it really is, if you really want to envision it, envision mass chaos. Envision a society without any stable law or order. Now, envision your own community rioting, looting, murdering. Where will you be?
I think of something like this quite often, because, well, its going to happen. With the Nations debt at over 16 trillion dollars, every 43 cents on the dollar you spend, goes to the National Debt. America exports an average of 3% of goods as where countries like China and Taiwan export double digits annually every year.
Our dependence on foreign Oil is higher than ever before, and the common wage, has risen 0% since the 1960s, although the cost of living goes up, and we see a wage increase, its virtually nothing.
Just these few examples are some of the reasons why America will fall eventually. One of the biggest reasons is, the Government we elect has betrayed us year after year. Nothing they do is for the COMMON good, its for the select good. The good of the people who serve our office, and even they may serve 2 years, 4 years, 8 years, get the best health care for free, get rich off our hard earned tax dollars, and pass bills none of the General Public want, I.e Obamacare all of which contributes to a National Debt we cant control any longer. We cannot sustain it any longer. For roughly every 1$ we spend, our country must borrow 59 cents [figures may be a little high, but its close to that]

When will we fall is the question. What will be the ultimate straw that breaks Americas back? Who will start the mass chaos, the Government or the people?
Reality is, if and when this situation takes place, you know what the Government is going to do first, send any and all LEOs or Military personnel they can to collect our weapons. Will we? Statistics show, 54% of Americans will, will you be one of them? Or will you join one of the many militias popping up in recent years and fight the Government?

Truth is, I refuse to be a victim any longer. And as a gun owner, and NRA member, I have made myself a target, as have many of you. You may or may not know it, but when the rebellion starts, and WE THE PEOPLE try and salvage our sacred Constitution, you think we will succeed or fail?

Sorry for the rambling, but its something Ive felt I had to say. With recent events and predictions of a gallon of gas to reach 5.00 a gallon or above, it sparked the thought. Its sad to see our Nation weaken at the knees, but truth is, either Republican or Democrat, neither are doing any good any more.
Although Republicans fight [or seemingly so] for the Average person, once theyre done, the country screams for a Democrat, and we see what Obama has done for us so far, nearly triple the Nations Debt, and spend more vacation time than the last 2 presidents combined.

Id like your thoughts on this.

I'm storing food, water, and ammo!

  4. The issue with the federal government is they have borrowed money to buy votes. Instead of doing the right thing, they have done whatever it takes to get re-elected. A seventy year business cycle is coming to an end. It will be interesting to see what comes after, and it may not be pretty.

If it comes to it, I would expect civil unrest to be regionally localized. Most people are going to keep to themselves and their neighborhoods. High population centers, i.e. urban areas could see pockets of violence. The Korean shop owners in LA successfully kept looters away with handguns. I'm better prepared than that.

Depending on the severity of the crisis, civil functions should normalization within a few weeks to a couple of months on the outside. I don't plan for a post-apocalyptic society, because I don't plan on being around, nor want to be. If one finds yourself to still be here, and not with the Lord, God help you!

This Country should have started getting off Oil in the early 70's. They say there was a shortage then and the oil price started climbing, remember the Oil Companies were making a lot of money supporting a War at that time, the War stopped, the prices went up. They had to make up the money they lost when the War stopped. During that time the economy of the World was based on a War. Gas cost $3.50+ in Europe in the late 70's. The price of Gas has been controlled for the last couple of years due to the economy, now they're saying the economy is improving and are going to let the price climb. I didn't just get off a Turnip Truck and I don't see where the economy is improving. Look at the prices for Food and everything else. I didn't get a Cost of Living raise this year but everything is going up, my Health Ins and Medicare Ins have gone up this year (2011). I have been vacuum sealing flour, grits, corn meal, lots of stuff, stocking up on many things that I think will not be available in the future, a lot more ammo and purchased a few High Quality Guns for special purposes. I think things will get a lot worst before it improves. You may need to Hunt and Fish to survive and you may need to defend what you have.

One random event is all it will take to push us over the edge. It may not even happen here and it could be as simple as a catastrophic weather event that results in devastation and rioting, then spreads like wildfire. The permutations are virtually infinite. Think, "The Butterfly Effect" - you may not believe in it, but it believes in all of us!

Quite blaming the oil. the problem is America does not export the amount of goods it use too. We are now only exporting single digits while importing in the high double digits from China who is sending unsafe items. And while you want to blame giving everyone access to healthcare as the problem you would be wrong. The problem was borrowing money from China to fight unneeded wars that did not need to be fought. As for the healthcare it is going to be needed due to all the lazy fat ass parents who don't raise their kids to get up and lose the weight and allow them to eat junk food all the time.. I heard on radio today that the military needed to change the PT so that the fat new recruits could handle it. Schools have cut the PT time that used to be given as gym class. So whatever disaster comes most of the Americans will die due to not being able to hunt and gather food due to them being used to just going to the store and picking it up. We have passed so many laws to keep those that should have been allowed to die alive. If you are dumb enough to ride your motorbike without a helmet or not wear your seatbelt when driving then the police should not stop and give you a ticket and tell you to put it on. They should just let nature take its course. That is one of the problems plaguing America we have allowed the stupidity factor to grow to levels nature would have not allowed and it is showing in our economy.

Kasper, your right the oil isn't the main problem but it may be the final straw, that broke the Camels back. Today a lot of people are not working, also a lot that are working are not making the money that they were two years ago. With prices like they are a lot of people are barely making it and some have lost their Houses. When GAS goes to $5.00+ others will loose their Houses, then you will start seeing what the OP is talking about start to happen.

You have simply put into written word what many others are thinking. Not everyone believes it will get really bad, but I ask "what if it does?". The potential is there...

The government itself has become the monster that needs to be fed. It is a dinosaur that can no longer find and consume enough food to survive.

We need to shrink and control the government, not allow the inverse to occur. It was never meant to be a support system for the society which supports it... Socialism is an economic system that will never be sustainable... Allowing people to be free is the key. Allowing them to suckle the teat with no end in site is pathetic and breads the entitlement mindset..

It could be a natural disaster like what was seen in New Orleans and the surrounding areas during the hurricane, that sparks an event or a series of events that consume the entire nation. There is plenty of stress and anger below the surface to sustain civil unrest at some uncontrolled level...

I agree the urban areas are more likely to see wide spread unrest and rioting if it were to come to that. However, The suburban areas with homes that represent the "Rich" to the have-nots, could likely become targets. It happened during the Great Depression.

As far as handing over my weapons that I surely will need to protect myself, family, and friends in a time of civil unrest, NO... I will not comply...
So militia it is... I've read enough of the stories and seen enough of the interviews from the Katrina event to not trust anyone with my property... My guns belong to me, in good times and bad.

You're not the only one who's thinking the unthinkable...
You can give peace a chance alright..

I'll seek cover in case it goes badly..

Yes. The oil issue is not the main problem, but with things either not improving, or not improving enough, will become a bigger problem financially and be that dreaded straw for many. The BP oil spill stopped for a time, what little domestic oil production we had last year. Renewables are good, but maybe more oil here will help the economy. It would be one less thing we lost to China and India.

Just an opinion, but it seems that at this point, getting out of debt as individuals will hurt the economy because it will be that much less spending in the economy. I have read an artice that compared the next bunch of years to the Fourth French Republic, where the majority party in government changed hands some 10 times in 20 years. It is tough to stay the course. I fear things will have to get a bit worse before getting better becomes a possibility.

It is scary to think of the United States as being a property tax lien, with countries like China holding the tax lien certificate.
