    Greece's Economic Tragedy

A lesson I hope we learn before it's too late...

From the Huckabee Report: Greece may cost the world a lot of money, but it is giving us something in return: a priceless lesson in the end results of socialism. The nation that's known as the “Cradle of Western Democracy” gave the world theater and philosophy, the Olympicsm even the very first coin. But now, they're down to their last coin. Like so many others, the Greeks fell for the idea of a nanny state providing for everyone from cradle to grave, and when the bill comes due, borrow money to cover it. Now that the Greek people are accustomed to that cozy hammock, they rioted when the socialist government they'd elected finally had to face reality and start making cuts.
Well, Monday, Standard & Poors slashed Greece's credit rating from B to Triple C, making it the lowest-rated country in the world. Its credit rating is now lower than Pakistan's, Grenada's, Jamaica's, and probably even your brother-in-law's. There's a push on to restructure Greece's debt, but S&P figures that means investors won't get what they were promised, so it's basically default by another name. Now, if you're wondering why you should care...not only is Greece threatening to set off another worldwide economic slide, but you should know how dire their situation is just for reference. Because even though Greece now has the lowest credit rating in the world, Bill Gross, the head of the giant bond fund Pimco, says there's another nation that's actually in worse financial shape. He says this country has made nearly $100 trillion worth of promises for bailouts and entitlement programs that it doesn't have the money to pay. That nation...the United States.

.... and the persons with the only authority to do anything about it either have their heads in the sand or are afraid of repercussions from their entitled constituents should they try to do anything about it.

Rock and a hard place. Usual Politician response to tough choices.... waffle, waffle, waffle!

Bad part is, if WE default... a lot of world financial stability is going to go right along with us. (... and you think most of the planet doesn't like us now? You ain't seen NOTHIN' yet!!!!!!!)

Actually, I have read where Japan, just barely on the recovery road from their little "Real estate meltdown" of the mid 90's, is in similar trouble, and it now trying to fund an after tsunami repair effort.

It's what happens when you have the erronious presumption that the good times are never going to end..... and spend accordingly. There used to be a concept called "Rainy Day Planning"..... funny how these things get forgotten in the midst of a lather of all emcompassing greed. Top to bottom of the social strata.

  5. Why do I keep getting the feeling that this is all by design? Spend more tax dollar to get us out of debt, what a concept.

Well, those of "Socialist" bent would just love it. Despite all the theory expounded on the "system", what it generally turns out to be is a rather preponderant number of the population living in relative poverty with a rather thin number of high Government officials living pretty much high off the hog.

Meanwhile, the Elitist Theorists try, usually with disasterous results, to control the economy and run all business enterprise. A function they are well versed in doing! NOT! (Note: It is axiomatic that Politicians, elected or not, are little able to run anything, with the exception of their mouths.)

One thing would be accomplished (undoubtedly most pleasing to the "moocher class'), we would all finally be "equal"..... Equally poor. Unfortunately, except for those who believe that THEY will be amongst the annointed class in the Socialist State, the general person desirous of the "benefits" of a truly Socialist State are typically those who do not read History and are totally incapable of "thinking things through to conclusion".

Oh well. If the vast proportion of the citizenry decide (or, rather, have decided for them) that the Socialist Model is for them, that is the way it shall be. But...... You'll be SOOOOOOOORRY! (LOL!)
