    Gun Control?

I'm wondering about this little piece of news. I keep stumbling across it in various formats.

It sounds like the pro-gunners dislike it as much as the anti-gunners. Which usually tells me something is probably reasonable and logical. I dunno. Thoughts?

If Obama is involved you can bank on the fact that it is neither logical or resonable, he wants America Disarmed.

Obama Administration Plans New Gun Control (From The NRA)

    Friday, July 08, 2011

As we pass the six-month anniversary of the tragic Tucson shooting, multiple press reports indicate the Obama administration is planning to unveil new, but unspecified, gun control initiatives.
At a Thursday briefing, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said, "As you know, the President directed the Attorney General to form working groups with key stakeholders to identify common-sense measures that would improve Americans' safety and security while fully respecting Second Amendment rights. That process is well underway at the Department of Justice with stakeholders on all sides working through these complex issues. And we expect to have some more specific announcements in the near future."
Carney provided no further details on the initiatives, but he isn't the only one saying something is in the works. According to a related article on NPR.org, U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) said, “I have spoken to the president. He is with me on [gun control], and it's just going to be when that opportunity comes forward that we're going to be able to go forward.” And longtime anti-gun activist Sarah Brady has said that in March, the president told her “I just want you to know that we are working on [gun control] ... We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”
Rest assured we'll report any significant developments in the weeks ahead.

Just picked up a new Smith & Wesson M&P15-22... Cheap to shoot and run practice drills with... Ordered another can of 5.56x45mm M855... Saving the 5.56 NATO for the events which may or may not unfold if the current administration continues to ignore "We The People"...

Obama and the current administration of "Dupes" will try anything to disarm the citizens so as to rule over us all. George Soros has been stacking the courts with liberal judges willing to ignore the Constitution and undermine the Bill of Rights and further the cause of socialism and communism... This is what voting progressive liberal democrat gets you...

Now just a second, before you get an aneurism or something.

Not more than three weeks ago Wayne LaPierre was giving an interview about the Arizona shooting, and he stated that the solution to the problem of people slipping through the background check cracks was to tighten up and enforce current law. Is this not what I am reading here?

    1. A national electronic system designed to make background checks for handgun buyers simpler and faster.
    2. A new reporting requirement that federally licensed gun shops report any person who tries to buy two long-arm weapons near the Mexican border over a five-day period.
    3. Tougher sentencing guidelines for straw buyers.

I'm still open to the idea that this is bad news, but you're going to have to convince me with something more than a knee-jerk reaction.

Careful about quoting the liberal run daily beast...

Apparently you did not read the links and or other information I posted and fully digested it yet ...

IF Wayne LaPierre actually said that then it is another NRA & Wayne LaPierre sell-out...

What I found was this quote: "NRA Head Wayne LaPierre On Tuscon Shootings: ‘Government Policies Are Getting Us Killed"

This call for yet more gun control is the exact same tire-arse argument that was made when Reagan & Brady were shot and 22,000 and counting firearms laws and Brady Bills ad nauseam later the only thing that has been proved is the colossal failure of these Second Amendment Infringements...

I read the links, I'm just not seeing the infringement of rights. Possibly with the border states issue, but the other two points sound to me like enforcing current law. And what's wrong with making it faster and easier to get through the background check process? And you shouldn't make straw purchases. There's a lot of alarms that should be going off in your head if someone asks you to buy a gun for them, wink wink nudge.

I realize that it's a lot more enjoyable for people to vilify Obama as anti-second amendment, and frankly, I've been disappointed with his reign as Grand Poobah, but I really don't see where he's anti-gun on any front. In fact, he's passed pro-gun legislation.

So...I hear Sarah Brady barking, but I don't think Obama's biting.

And all those laws have done is prove their failure...

It was on the news again a few minutes ago, virtually all pro-gun lobby's are up in arms about Obama & Company's administrative anti-second amendment gun control end-runs around Congress to say the least...

Rep. Lamar Smith: Administration's gun restrictions target border state citizens

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R Texas) today criticized the Obama administration's decision to impose new reporting requirements for gun sales in states along the U.S. Mexico Border. "It is the height of hypocrisy for the Obama administration to restrict the gun rights of border state citizens, when the administration itself knowingly and intentionally allowed guns to be trafficked into Mexico...This rule unfairly punishes citizens in Border States who have the right to purchase firearms to protect themselves and their families from dangerous drug traffickers and human smugglers."

NRA Statement on Obama Administration Decision to Require Rifle Sales Reporting

$40 billion transnational criminal enterprises don't fill out paperwork and are not deterred by paperwork violations. This is a blatant effort by the Obama administration and ATF to divert focus of Congress and the general public from their gross incompetence in the Fast and Furious scandal. This scheme will unjustly burden law-abiding retailers in border states. It will not affect drug cartels and and it won't prevent violence along our borders. ATF and the Administration lacks the statutory authority to do this and the NRA will file suit as soon as ATF sends the first demand letters. -Chris W. Cox, executive director, NRA-ILA
