Thread: Is your U. S. Copngressman a member of the Socialist Party?

  1. Ah, here we go: PolitiFact says false. Not just false, but *REALLY* false. The former head of the Democratic Socialist for America says it's false. The list of people is merely the list of the "Congressional Progressive Caucus", a self-selecting group of lawmakers that consider themselves "Progressive". Note that *NONE* of these lawmakers consider themselves "Socialist". (The last identified-as-Socialist in congress was from California, and left in 1998.) Someone slapped the CPC list onto a made-up DSA press release.

Yes, some of you may consider "Progressive" to be the same thing as "Socialist", but neither Progressives nor Socialists equate the two. The way I see it, it's the same as calling someone with very mild racism a Nazi. It's both false to the accused, and makes the thing they're being called less important. (Yeah, I'm pretty darned Progressive, but even I disagree with true Socialism or Communism.)

To quote the recently retired head of the DSA: "Llewellyn said, "if we had formal political relationships with 70-odd members, we would be making a lot more money’’ from dues."

It doesn't matter that they are not formal members; what matters is how they think and vote. Note this quote:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."

    - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944, and 1948
    - This was from a speech in 1944.

In answer to your original question, I'm from Idaho. There are no socialists here.

Actually in Iran homosexual acts are punishable by death. However gender-change surgery is quite comman and accepted. (-Not sure I would be confident in the quality of the surgery in that nation though.)
