Dave Ramsey Talks To The 99 Percent

    This commentary nails it squarely.

If you’re saying that all businesses are greedy and that capitalism itself is evil and ineffective, then I’m sorry—you’re just being stupid.

    ...

I’ve heard a lot about wealth redistribution over the past few years, and I’m sure you’ve heard it too. Call it whatever you want, but this is how it usually sounds to most Americans: “We are the 99% of Americans who don’t have as much as the 1%, so we’re mad and think the government should take their wealth and property away so that I can have a piece of it. Wealth inequality is a moral breakdown! We should all spread the money around so everyone gets a fair share!”

I have my toughest critique for those who believe this: You are a thief. When someone takes my money and gives me no say in the matter, that’s called theft—whether they’re using a gun or the government.

The left has been playing the class warfare card for fifty years. They have transfered more that a trillion dollars to level the field. Yet the poverty keeps growing. Is it just me or is there something wrong with this program?

  5. And Republicans entered the Obama presidency from day 1 saying their main goal was to make sure Obama was a one-term president. How on earth is that rational? How on earth is that considered doing the work of the people? How much abuse would Republicans give Democrats if they ever said that?

Look, both parties are only out for themselves. As for me, a flaming liberal Democrat, I wish there was smaller government and that it did what it does best: Provide security against foreign threats, provide oversight to corporations because while Capitalism is the best system, it has no morals and there really should be some. Corporations are not designed to give a damn about pollution or horrible working conditions or abuse. Government should really provide some of that oversight. And provide some social safety net so that we aren't a society that lets ill or elderly people die and live in poverty because they are ill or elderly?

I think Democrats fail our country by cow-towing to unions and special interests and Republicans fail our country by cow-towing to the rich. Pure and simple. We the people need to demand more of our public servants. Public servant my tush. They (both Republicans and Democrats) are servants to the mighty dollar. We the American populace really owe it to ourselves and our children and grandchildren to force our government, who are Americans just like us, to roll up their sleeves and do some serious work. Cut programs, cut taxes, but do these things responsibly and with a good reason.

I'll shut up now and wait for the insults and slams because I opened my mouth.

How come you admit to being a "flaming liberal Democrat" yet you have common sense? Just asking...it goes against the grains of my thinking. (Oh btw, I am neither a Dem or a Rep.)

  7. Tucker's Mom: I'm so glad you wrote that (and I mean it). I thought I should "come out" on a gun forum for just that reason. I think sometimes there's the thought that no liberal or democrat could hold any of the same beliefs as a Republican or Independent.

But you know, your comment that you're neither a Dem or Rep has gotten me thinking. Given my belief that both parties are just opposite sides of the same coin, maybe I do need to change my registration to Independent.

    Anyway, thanks for your comment.

Or maybe you should vote for Ron Paul! He always takes the moral high ground by believing in "what is right", instead of, "what is popular" with the group he's speaking to at the moment. Every candidate that takes the oath of office says, "I shall defend the constitution . . ". Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate that takes that oath seriously. He does not waver in his convictions. Crony capitalism got us in the sorry condition we're in now, and both Dems and Reps are responsible. Not for the party line, but because of greed. Capitalism is not to blame. I believe that the United States is on a collision course and neither Romney, Perry, Bachmann, Cain, or Zero-bama can, or will stop it. Inevitably, the economy will collapse. The U.S. will be plunged into total chaos. Your paper dollars will be worth nothing except for wiping your sorry behinds. We will resort to barter, and paying with silver and/or gold. And, Ron Paul and his supporters will say, "I told you so." But you didn't listen.

Two sides of the same coin is right.

Well said. No slam from me.

  11. I hope that WeekEndSKP is wrong, but I am afraid he's not! Obama's socialist agenda scares the hell out of me and the Republican party isn't the answer either. We need a Constitutional reawakening with true representation and extremely limited government.
