To the NC State Legislators who sponsored this bill:
What do a Charlotte firefighter, a 14-year-old boy and his 17-year-old sister, a Robeson County man, a Charlotte Iraq War veteran, and a Jacksonville U.S. Marine all have in common?
Each had no choice but to use deadly force in defense of themselves or their families since enactment of North Carolina’s Castle Doctrine law, and each was protected from malicious litigation or prosecution.
The bill you are sponsoring, HB 1192: “Amend Castle Doctrine/Repeal Stand Ground” would repeal a law that is already saving lives. Moreover, I defy you to produce a single case in which North Carolina’s “Castle Doctrine” or “Stand Your Ground” provisions have been misused.
I strongly urge you to withdraw support from the bill, and will be monitoring your actions via Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts
