Obama To Sign International Gun Control Treaty On June 3rd

by AWR Hawkins 30 May 2013, 5:18 AM PDT
On June 3, President Barack Obama will sign the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

The ATT passed in the U.N. General Assembly by a vote of 153-4 on April 2 (with the US voting in favor).

This treaty is ostensibly aimed at putting an end to gun trafficking across international boundaries, and both Breitbart News and the NRA have argued that it will eventually require an international gun registry in order to be enforceable.

The ATT also provides the executive branch of our government with broad powers for controlling which guns do and don't come into the country, and includes ambiguous language that a gun-control-friendly administration can use to its advantage.

Even though Obama will sign this treaty, it is not enforceable in the U.S. until the Senate ratifies it by a two-thirds majority.

For the time being, Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) has pushed through an amendment opposing the treaty. However, Obama's signature will open the door for the Senate to reconsider a resolution of ratification at a future date.

The most prolific gun traffickers in the world are Obama and the U.S. Government. They are already arming the Syrian Rebels to overthrow a tyrannical but legitimate government, supported by the Russians. And continuing to arm the Muslim Brotherhood isn't in our interest. There is no possibility of getting the necessary 2/3 vote in the Senate necessary to ratify the treaty. Where the great danger exists is in Obama attempting to implement the treaty with executive orders. He has enough problems already and bypassing the Senate is only going to increase his problems. Besides, those angry with the destruction of liberty in this country are nearing a braking point. And bringing UN Troops to enforce this monstrosity most likely will not work out well.

This is a constitutional train wreck. As has been this entire presidency of lies and back-door dealing. For a former constitutional law professor he's playing hard and fast with the law. He threw his pesky white grandmother under the bus in the 2007 campaign yet won't do it to Holder (fast-n-furious, IRS scandal, Targeting the AP, Targeting Fox News reporter James Rosen and his parents).

You mean the same Clinton who gave top secret military data to the Chinese for campaign contributions?

Do you remember the satellite the Chinese shot down a few years ago? I think you can thank Clinton that they have that capability.

Luckily, the UN can pass whatever the hell they please, and our prez can be for or against it, but for it to apply here it has to be ratified by Congress. The same thing has been going on for decades with the UNCLOS agreement (Laws of the Sea) that tries to make the UN in charge of all the oceans. We never ratified.

We have all ready given up so much. So what if he signs some international treaty...we have so many infringements and restrictions the 2A means nothing today.

    ^^^^ THIS

People are running around like chickens with their heads cut off but until the Senate picks it up it's a non issue and from what I've seen there's not much interest in the Senate to even look at it.
