I apologize for having to assert legal protections before posting my friend's blog-post (with verifiable permission), but a certain cluzless participant on this forum has made it necessary.

The following blog-post comes from Sword At The Ready Blog. No portion of it may be used for any purpose on other sites, in emails, in print or any other medium without explicit permission from its author/proprietary owner. Anyone may link to this post if they wish to share the content of it with anyone else, but they may not reproduce it in any manner without permission.

With that out of the way, my friend, INVAR, shares his views of the latest scandal that broke overnight this early A.M. I have been on Verizon for the entire time I've had a cell account, which I believe started in '97 or so. I'm towards the end of my last 2-year contract renewal, which means I will be in the market for a new service provider in the near future. If anyone has a recommendation that includes good data and phone signal for most of the country, I'd appreciate hearing about it with your other comments on the story itself.

Next Scandal: PhoneGate – Obama Is Collecting Your Phone Call Records

Obama’s NSA collecting the phone records of millions of Americans daily, without warrant, oversight or your permission.

Welcome to Obama’s Amerika folks, the Soviet Utopia, reconstituted on the rotting corruption of our once free nation.

Breaking from the Guardian in the UK, Townhall reports that Obama’s National Security Agency has mandated that phone-provider Verizon, provide on an on-going daily-basis, the phone records of it’s customers.

Funny thing is, I recall how BESERK the anti-war Leftists went when it was learned that President Bush was wiretapping foreign phone calls from Jihadist nations INTO the USA. Today – DEAD SILENCE.

It was never about our liberties for the anti-war Left. It’s about the advancement of their ‘Marxist revolution’ and always has been.

But just ask yourself – what in the world does Obama need with YOUR phone records? WHOM you talk to? What ‘unique identifiers’ (key words in your conversation) are they listening for?

Given what this regime was just found doing to AP, this looks to be more of the same gulag-like police-state data collections that many of us are warning you all is taking place. Eric Holder’s Department of Justice cast a wide net in his search of AP phone logs, as evidenced in his agency naming journalist James Rosen a co-conspirator in an espionage charge in order to obtain all his phone records, but now we learn that this practice of going after private phone records is not just limited to high-profile critics of the Obama regime, but everyday average Joe and Jill’s as the NSA is targeting millions of Americans for daily data collection.

The purpose? Well, it creates an atmosphere of fear of saying anything against Obama and this regime or it’s agenda. It catalogs whom you associate with, and provides the regime with anything and everything you say and associate with for potential charges in the near future.

Think that far-fetched? You might want to consider what U.S. attorney Bill Killian at Obama’s DOJ just said yesterday. He stated that saying anything negative about Islam violates the Civil Rights laws of Muslims and they WILL start prosecuting for that violation: “Could an Internet posting or letter in the mail or a phone call or a personal confrontation (against Islam) constitute a violation of those statutes?” he asked, citing 18 US Code 241 and 18 US Code 245. “Yes, it could.”

“In its latest effort to protect followers of Islam in the U.S., the Obama Justice Department warns against using social media to spread information considered inflammatory against Muslims, threatening that it could constitute a violation of civil rights,”

Understand now why potentially, Obama is collecting all our phone records?

This is how the Soviet Union’s tyranny worked – EVERYONE was automatically considered a criminal by the state, and anything you ever said, did or thought that could be used as a pretext for your arrest was what the Soviet did. We should not marvel at this. It’s what every single despotic Left regime does to their own people when it puts down the iron fist of tyranny.

    Welcome to Obama’s gulag.

INVAR cites and quotes his source as:
...from Townhall.com. Well worth the read on its own merits.

Can you hear me now? No, Verizon, and as soon as my contractual obligations to you have expired, I will never have to hear from you again.

When my contract with Verizon is up, I'm switching carriers. Most likely, I'll switch to T-Mobile.

I guess we shouldn't be shocked or surprised, but the evolution of this story is already exposing more carriers than just Verizon being involved. So far I haven't heard any others specifically named, only that there are others.

Who is going to say enough already?

Another scandal coming to the attention of the public, at what point will they say enough is enough. After all they have already shown they don't think this guy can do any wrong.
Will it take someone stepping to their home during Sunday dinner and listening in to their personal conversation before they finally get fed up with it all.

I have experience here as my background was telecom (retired now) and I still have a few friends working as network engineers. It's no secret in the telecom industry that the NSA (or the flavor of the day) have passive optical taps (for example, on the 10Gb/OC-192 fiber connections) at the aggregation points at all of the major carriers. This has been going on for quite a while and there is no escaping this thing. Here's a little info on the (in)famous Room 641A :

Yeah, I've been hearing that this has been going on pretty much ever since passage of the Patriot Act. I guess FISA has some influence here too.

With your experience, what about texting? Is that caught up in the "meta data" they're collecting? What about web surfing? I use my phone as my access point when I'm away from the house, or the power gets knocked out by a thunderstorm. Does the meta data show the URLs I visit? (My apologies if your link answers these questions, I just hit "Reply" before checking it out.)

This stuff has been going on for a long, long time (at least twenty years before 9/11 that I personally know of). I was an electrical engineer and designed circuits in the outside plant. Back in the day everything was on copper and fiber was just in it's infancy as trunk lines between certain select central offices. "Customers" (using that term loosely because we were not supposed to know who or what they were) would order circuits to be built that would accomplish something in the phone world. As an electrical engineer it was fairly obvious what was going on, you knew the only use for some circuits. Occasionally you would have to speak to someone at the "customer's" faraway receiving location (where the circuit would terminate). People always liked to chat (braggadocio often nets interesting things) and you could usually find out what agency they worked for. Believe me, Big Brother has been monitoring our communications long before there was even an internet.
But anyway, to your question, they are grabbing everything, be it voice, text, e-mail, whatever. If any kind of data is passing through any Central Office, they know what it is. Scary ? You bet ! Medical records, taxes, guns, sex, you name it. Somebody somewhere knows it all. Let your imagination run wild and think about what leverage could be applied to say, oh, a Supreme Court Justice for example......

We are the government , we are here to help. Trust us. Obama will find out about this stuff soon as he has time to read a news paper.
