  1. If you own a firearm will you...

Please respond to this so we can get our point across.

Ideally we need a few eloquent and outspoken people to actually attend those meetings. Anybody living in VA?

As a part time college instructor, I wish I could attend. Sadly, I do not live in VA.

Here is an email that went out to members on the VCDL mailing list yesterday (10/8/07) from Philip Van Cleave. If you are in Virginia, consider being a member of the VCDL.

Tonight I addressed the Virginia Community College task-force on
campus safety. I spoke for about 3 minutes.

    Cliff's Notes of my comments:

    * Regardless of whatever security arrangements the school might have
(alarms, police presence, etc), in the end, if an adult student is
facing imminent death because of a failure in those security
arrangements, that person should have the option of being able to
    defend themselves.

    * CHP holders have proven themselves the most trustworthy of all
citizens and should be allowed to carry concealed handguns on campus,
just as they do virtually everywhere else in the Commonwealth.

    * A person's life is the most precious thing they have and they must
be allowed to protect their life in an emergency.

There was only one other speaker on guns who said she would not feel
    safe if students were armed.

The panel was receptive and friendly.

The meeting was over as soon as there were no more comments, so it
did not drag on and was actually over 30 minutes ahead of time.

Those of you in Northern Virginia and in Western Virginia, let's get
some people to address the task-force:

Tomorrow (Tuesday) 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM:

Northern Virginia Community College's Annandale Campus at the Ernst
    Center, in the Forum

Wednesday 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM:

Virginia Western Community College, Business Science Building in the
    Auditorium (first floor)

If you are planning on attending, let me know so I have an
    approximate head-count.

If you can't attend in person, be sure to send comments to:

    [email protected]

And the second email came out about the same time:

VCDL's Gun Dealer Legal Defense Fund -- help fight Mayor Bloomberg's
scheme to cripple Virginia firearms dealers. See:
    VCDL's meeting schedule: http://www.vcdl.org/meetings.html

I am scheduled to give a talk at a meeting of the Libertarians at
Virginia Tech on Monday, October 29th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The topic will be, "Higher Ed and lawful concealed carry: what is
    YOUR life worth?"

***Due to the number of RSVPs, we now have a much larger meeting room!***

I received this email from Christine Malady tonight:

    Mr. Van Cleave,

I am pleased to report that the Libertarians at Virginia Tech have reserved a
much bigger room (over 300 capacity) for your talk on Monday, October 29th at
7pm in Room 1670 of Litton-Reaves Hall on the west side of campus. Ample
parking is available directly behind the building. Some space will be reserved
for the media, but otherwise it will be first come first serve.

    In Liberty,
    Christine Malady
    President, Libertarians at Virginia Tech

I expect that there will be media present at the meeting.

The meeting is open to the public, so please come if you can and
    bring friends and family.

I am hoping that we can get as many students to attend as possible.
If you know any VT students, or students from other colleges or
universities, please forward this alert to them!

If you are coming, please reply to this email with your name and the
number in your party. **If you are a Virginia Tech student, please
    indicate that as well.**

I will forward the emails to Christine Malady, who is the President
of the Libertarians at Virginia Tech.
