The Russian ship is not breaking any laws. I'm not sure what's unclear about that. They can sit out there all they want, nothing we can legally do to remove them. If that makes us vulnerable, then Shane on us.

As for Trump not making a statement about the treaty violation, thank GOD he's not reporting his intentions every time a potential enemy makes a move. Unlike the last president who told all of our enemies every move in advance.

Nothing new since many decades. The Russians (and previously, Soviets) have been doing this since the Cold War days, usually keeping just at the edge of legal distance. It's nothing new. It's the same game we've been playing with their "trawlers," "research vessels," subs and bogeys for years. We do the same thing only more discretely.

BTW, the Russians aren't off the coast of only one port. My hometown paper in New London, CT, recently mentioned them off the coast of the sub base there. (Also, nothing new.)

The Russian ship was in international waters, 70 miles off the coast of Delaware. The U.S. territory line is 12 miles. The Russian aircraft buzzed a U.S. destroyer in the Black Sea. The destroyer was roughly 186 miles southwest of Crimea and roughly 50 miles off the coast of Romania. We do have our ships off the coast of foreign countries in international waters as well.

Also, President Trump commented on both instances today.

It looks like DJT has been too tied up with issues like Flynn to do anything about N.Korea.

I think that sends a bad message to N.Korea that they can get away with about anything and will be ignored in the process.

That missile silo or mobile launcher that the N.Koreans used for their last missile launch should have been bombed to pieces, so that N.Korea gets the message.

A Ruskie spy ship cruising the US East Coast is no big worry. Satellite technology make these kinds of ship obsolete anyway. This is just Uncle Vlad's way of showing the Ruskie flag. Plus DJT and Vlad like each other. Hell they might even be fokking each others sisters.

What is more troubling to me is that DJT is preoccupied with Flynn and replacing him, and therefore N.Korea is getting away with their usual missile tests.

Those are offensive missiles not defensive missiles. They can carry strategic payloads.

N.Korea needs to be thumped. Then maybe even wacked.

    Nice civil thread so far.

No concealed carry issues, of course.

But Luke gets to hear ka-chink everything we post, so win-win for everybody.

    Right, Elderon ?!

That's been happening for many years. Our carriers send intercepts far in advance of them getting close to our superior equipment.

The Navy knows how to handle these situations.
