Federal law does trump state law, we will have to see how this plays out in the courts and God Bless us all. In Texas all I said is we can physically walk our child to the door of the school as long as the grounds itself are not posted. While some of us seem to be forgetting those ideals/freedoms/laws not specifically granted to the Fed are left to the states, Feds do not issue gun permits states do. Again this will have to play out in court and we need to push to have concealed and open constitional carry available in all states by all honest law abiding citizens. No matter how much we argue between ourselves we are just blowing hot air.

  4. Lot of nit-picking

I just visited this thread- sorry I'm late. Probably too late for anyone to care but: what difference does it make what the various lawsuits said at the time they were adjudged? The important thing is to work together, send the letters to Congress and get the damned law off the books. (Along with all the rest of the anti stuff.) At age 78 I darn sure can't defend myself against the many youngsters who like to prey on old farts like me and I sure don't need five years in the "clink" nor losing my CCW's because I refuse to travel unarmed. It's bad enough going to casinos to "gift" my contributions and hoping I'm not "caught" in the parking lots!

  5. I want everyone to know that WVCDL and I are organizing a nationwide grassroots coalition to fix this law. WVCDL has drafted legislation, and we have the support of some heavyweight, nationally-known players behind us. We need everyone's support. If you or your organization want to help, please send me a PM with your contact information.

  6. We have created a national group dedicated to fixing this. It is called "The National Coalition for Amending the Federal Gun Free School Zones Act of 1995" If you would like to be part of this coalition, send an E-mail to:

You can easily withdraw your e-mail by sending a message to:

1000 feet. Who comes up with this crap?
Little hint. BAD guys dont care. So the only folks actually in any danger by any law like this are the unwary law abiding who dont have the time to weed thru thousands of pages of federal laws.

"The 2nd amendment was never intended to allow private citizens to 'keep and bear arms'. If it had, there would have been wording such as 'the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed'." -- Ken Konecki on Usenet, on 27 Jul 1992

  10. California State Senator Ted Lieu has filed a bill in the California Senate that would expand California's state gun free school zones from 1000ft to 1500ft. Although this is a California senate bill, and would not effect the federal law, its potential implications are hard to ignore. Lieu filed
this bill in order to thwart the unlicensed open carry movement that has been building in California.

Also, I've had people asking if the National Reciprocity Bill would correct Fed GFSZA95. The answer is unequivocally no. Fed GFSZA95 restrictions would still apply, and will continue to apply until the federal school zones law is specifically amended.
