  1. Talking *Latest Update From My Denial Process*

Well I am happy to report that my appeal went through, and I am now a legal Concealed Weapon Permit holder in the state of South Carolina. You can follow the process I had to go through in this thread...

    http://www.usacarry.com/forums/south...tter-help.html

I came home today from work and opened the mail box and to my surprise was a letter from SLED that felt like it had a hard piece of plastic. Opened it up and their was my ugly mug on my permit.

So, in all through this entire process from the day that I took my actual CWP course, it took exactly 79 Days, and that includes receiving the Denial letter on November 5, 2010. I submitted my appeal on November 29, 2010 and today I received my permit. Not bad for a state that has a track record for taking so long to turn around CWP request.

I want to thank everyone that has posted on my previous thread and gave me words of help and encouragement. All the comments were very much appreciated and helped me stay calm through this process. Thanks again.

Oh, and yes, I immediately through on my Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe, and my Springfield XD .40 and proceeded to ask the wife if there was any place she needed me to go. She smiled and said Yes. Felt great to have my sidearm actually on my side and walking into places. Haven't got the weird feeling that people are staring at me yet, but I am sure that will come soon enough until carrying becomes second nature to me again. Thanks again for all the support. I also look forward to helping anyone in the future that goes through what I had too.

All that worry and hard work paid off. A shame that we have to go through that kind of stuff but that is how it is right now.

  5. Great feeling to walk out the door with a little extra weight on the belt huh? :) I know you will appreciate it more than some since you had to work so hard to get it. Good for you and enjoy!

YES!!! It is a great feeling to actually feel little extra weight around my belt.

And appreciate it more... Yes, especially since I had to get the documentation from all the way up in Northern Virginia. I look back at the frustration that I had and if it wasn't for this great website and the words from my (now) fellow CWP holders, I think this process would have been a lot more difficult.

I forgot to add this little bit of information... I got a little curious because well, that is just who I am, and wanted to know what actually helped my case and have my permit issued. So I called up SLED and I spoke with the gentleman I actually made my appeal too at the regulatory office. Not sure if I would get the answer I was looking for, but I figured I would try...

I asked him if he could tell me what was actually the determining factor for my appeal to be approved. He looked up my SSN and told me that the biggest factor was my actual letter that I wrote to him and stating my case of why I disagreed with the initial denial.

So in all, the best advice that I can pass along to anyone that does have to go through the appeal process is to make sure they type a very professional letter and be very thorough in stating you case of why you disagree with the denial.

Carry everywhere where it is legal and do not carry anywhere where it is illegal.

So, even with a denial letter and appeal, you get yours in less time than most of us did?
