    I forget the name of the office complex up beside Mackey Mortuary... it's where the S.C. tax office is and it seems some kind of court or something since when I went there yesterday there were about 6 highway patrol cars parked. Every entrance to the parking lot has a no concealed weapons allowed sign... aggrivates the begebers out of me that I even have to read that stuff... Siince I was not going into a government office or a court but a private business and there was no sign on the door to the business... I ignored them.

    But I would like to ask the folks that own this place where they think I'm supposed to park if I chose to obey their signs?

    Nothing out of the ordinary happened, but thought I'd pass along my findings... :)
    that's good to know. I am in sc from time to time and that is one of the malls I go to when I am there. first off all I am glad that sc recognizes the michigan permit.. now it's good to know that I can carry in that mall.
    You can have my freedom as soon as I'm done with it!!!

    It was Century Plaza on Century drive that is paralel to 385 that has the stupid signs on the entrances to their parking lot.... the S.C. tax commission offices are in there and like I said...some thing to do with the SC highway patrol since there are always a bunch of their vehicals parked down at the end.... and I haven't smelled a donut shop anywhere near by.

  5. ...way it was explained to me was that the signs had to be legal. there used to be the little no concealable weapons signs on the doors and people were still shooting. evidently they took em off so people who legally carry could legally carry and defend themselves. haven't heard about a shooting there lately. fwiw, one of the instructors at my cwp class is a judge, and he pretty much said that as a permit holder you can legally carry there.

    The sign requirements in SC are very specific and do carry the full weight of the law but only if the signs meet the requirements of the law. The only place I have seen proper signs are at the Florence City-County complex which didn't need to be posted to start with. :11: I have seen other types of signs at various places but since they do not meet the requirements they do not apply.

    SECTION 23-31-235. Sign requirements.

    (A) Notwithstanding any other provision of this article, any requirement of or allowance for the posting of signs prohibiting the carrying of a concealable weapon upon any premises shall only be satisfied by a sign expressing the prohibition in both written language interdict and universal sign language.

    (B) All signs must be posted at each entrance into a building where a concealable weapon permit holder is prohibited from carrying a concealable weapon and must be:

    (1) clearly visible from outside the building;

    (2) eight inches wide by twelve inches tall in size;

    (3) contain the words "NO CONCEALABLE WEAPONS ALLOWED" in black one-inch tall uppercase type at the bottom of the sign and centered between the lateral edges of the sign;

    (4) contain a black silhouette of a handgun inside a circle seven inches in diameter with a diagonal line that runs from the lower left to the upper right at a forty-five degree angle from the horizontal;

    (5) a diameter of a circle; and

    (6) placed not less than forty inches and not more than sixty inches from the bottom of the building's entrance door.

    (C) If the premises where concealable weapons are prohibited does not have doors, then the signs contained in subsection (A) must be:

    (1) thirty-six inches wide by forty-eight inches tall in size;

    (2) contain the words "NO CONCEALABLE WEAPONS ALLOWED" in black three- inch tall uppercase type at the bottom of the sign and centered between the lateral edges of the sign;

    (3) contain a black silhouette of a handgun inside a circle thirty-four inches in diameter with a diagonal line that is two inches wide and runs from the lower left to the upper right at a forty-five degree angle from the horizontal and must be a diameter of a circle whose circumference is two inches wide;

    (4) placed not less than forty inches and not more than ninety-six inches above the ground;

    (5) posted in sufficient quantities to be clearly visible from any point of entry onto the premises.

    I think there have been enough robberies and shots fired at Haywood Mall in recent years to make carrying on their premises a no-brainer. Besides, their signs are NOT the official sign designated by SC Code SECTION 23-31-235 and are therefore irrelevant.

    Thanks Danno

    For posting that info about the Haywood mall.....wait, I mean the Gangsterwood Mall. That place can be a little scary if you are ever there at night time, especially on a Friday night.

    I really would like to help put together a list for the Myrtle Beach area. I am mad at myself because I keep trying to remember to look as I enter semi public places. I'd like to take note of where I can and cannot carry before I go take my CWP class next month.

  10. Last time I was there I witnessed a security guard "escort" a young thug out for wearing pants about his knees. It made my day.

    Most mall security is a joke, so it was nice to see someone doing their job and improving the shopping environment for customers.
