I went to Haywood mall today and saw the new signs. They do not meet the requirements so I went on in as usual.

It must also be clearly visible from outside the building. Can it be seen from the outside? It also must be within a specific proximity of the entrance door.

    (B) All signs must be posted at each entrance into a building where a concealable weapon permit holder is prohibited from carrying a concealable weapon and must be:

    (1) clearly visible from outside the building;

    (6) placed not less than forty inches and not more than sixty inches from the bottom of the building’s entrance door.

  4. It was not on the door at all. As I was entering I just happened to look to the right of the door and saw it on the window in the ticket booth. You can not even see it when paying at the booth. My understanding was the sign had to be posted on the door itself. As it was posted Saturday night, it was not in a position I would consider as clearly visible as one would not see it unless looking in the right direction or just looking for the sign specifically.

I live in Iowa and this is from Iowa carry. org "Generally, once you have a PCW, you can carry a weapon anywhere except those places prohibited by any restrictions on your permit and these locations prohibited by law:
School zones and parks - Illegal to possess a firearm if you commit a public offense (724.4A))
School grounds - Illegal to carry (724.4A(1) and 724.4B)
    School bus (Administrative rule 281-43.38(2))
    Casinos (Administrative rule 491-5.4(6))
    Capitol Complex (Administrative rule 11-100.2(8A))
State parks and preserves - Prohibits use, not carry (461A.42)
    State Fair (Administrative rule 371-2.5(173))
    Federal facilities, grounds, and courts

Businesses may also elect to create a "safety-free zone" by requesting that customers do not carry weapons on their property. If you carry a weapon on their property, you may be asked to leave. If you fail to leave, you would be cited with a trespassing charge, NOT a weapons charge. "

And for me if my gun isn't welcome then neither am I or my money, there are other places with the same product that don't mind my gun and like my money.

Oh, and the fair grounds, get this one, that is where they hold a lot of gun shows. You can't carry there, but the state doesn't mind making money off of you by letting you buy guns at the gun show. So needless to say I don't go to the gun shows.

The signs in those pictures do not meet the requirements. The intent of the legislature in making the law was it had to be plainly viewable and meet the specific codes so there would be no questiont to intent on either party. Notice that the height specs is saying at eyelevel and clearly visible from outside so you are aware before you go in.

The defining on how the sign must look is saying that if a business wants to enforce the law then they must also follow the law and not just any sign will do. If you ignore the signs in that picture they can still ask you to leave however you are not breaking any law. If the signs met the law and you went in anyway you could be arrested and charged without them asking you to leave. It would also come up in any case where you had to use your gun.

The ironic thing is that the signs above will do just as much good keeping BG's with guns out as the legal signs. It will also keep most GG's from carrying guns which means the GG's will be outnumbered.

  7. The Movie Theater in Summerville, SC has signs posted for no Concealed Weapons allowed.

But on a side note they at least have a few cops hanging out in the front.

That's SOP for Gun Shows. I don't know of any that allow CC at shows. I don't mind not having a loaded firearm on me at shows because it's one place that I feel completely safe. I don't think a BG would be crazy enough to do anything at one.

A while back I was at a gun show where they have the LEO checking at the door and signs all over the place. There were two older fellows standing there looking at a P3AT that one of them was about to buy. The big fellow says you can put it in your hip pocket just like this and proceeds to pull his fully loaded P3AT out and show the little giuy. The little guy has this look of horror on his face and says something like what are doing with that in here. The big fellow says awwww ain't nobody going to say nothing. I almost laughed out loud but figured that I better keep quiet. I'd be willing to bet $50 neither one had a CWP.
