Thread: Concealed carry law now in effect in wisconsin. NOV1ST 2011.

Way to go Wisconsin! On 01 Nov 2011, I took the train from Chicago to Kenosha.(gun in locked case of course)Upon arrival to WI I left the train and found a place to arm myself. (I think a lawsuit against these rail companys is in order in that their company policy violates 2A rights) As I left the station I encountered the Kenosha County Sheriffs Dept(next to the station) naturally, they saw my polished Colt MK-IV and approached.
I complied, stated I was armed,a permit holder and all the rest. They were VERY NICE about the whole matter and had questions themselves which I gladly answered. NO business in Kenosha that I saw was a "no gun zone" and many store owners wanted info on how to get a permit. I obliged. Id like to say thanks to the Wisconsin DOJ that was very helpful with my questions, the Kenosha County Sheriffs Dept for being professional, and to those that did NOT give up the fight for CCW in WI. There were NO reportable adverse incidents while I was there prracting my CCW rights.(a few raised eyebrows but other than that....) Thanks also to usacarry for its informative postings, laws, and charts that ALWAYS help a lot.

Oh heres what I did. I called VA and NH(2 of my other permits) and asked about how they conducted BG checks.they use the NICS system, which complys with WI LAW. I called WI DOJ and was told to submit this information in writing to them which i did.hopefully they (WI) will add NH and VA to the list of approved permits as well.
Sorry for you FL guys that fell for the sales pitch of THAT permit.AZ non resident gives the same and is recognied better than the FL permit. AND only 60 bucks. I would urge all not listed permit holders to check then if appropriate send this info to WI DOJ IN WRITING so that they can be current. Every bit helps.

UM ok you must be doing it wrong. If you were CC'ing how did the Sheriffs and store owners even know you were armed? As far as your CCW rights, you defiantly need to keep practicing :)

Anyways open carry or failed attempt at concealed carry glad it was a good experience for you. Just hope Illinois will see the light sooner rather then later and restore your 2A rights aswell.

    ok.

Well it wasnt being "done wrong" the wind caught the coat.(oops! hahaha)As far as store owners are concerned, many were unaware of the law and the contact was more educational for both parties as opposed to making a political statement. Appreciate your reply and your suggestion to practice more, but I think I did ok.Its better to have open lines of communication with the LE people than to take the more radical approaches to CCW that I have seen out here.
Aside from that, the only issue here is that the "no carry" or "no transport" o trains NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. Specifically the Metra line in Illinois.

Im contacting a law firm since I believe that it IS legal(under 720.5/24 ILCS) to transport weapons in a secure case in Illinois. Once the train is OUTSIDE Illinois, other laws and CCW laws apply. Should they cite 'federal law',the response to that is simple....second amendment.I have carried BOTH openly and concealed on public transportation for the better part of 15 years and this to me is an attempt by the anti gunners at infringement. But I COULD be wrong.(sarcasm "on")
Another focal point here is I dont see how a company policy can over ride LAW. To me this policy violates my rights and those rights of other Lawful Carriers.

Its bogus but that is what the DOJ is using as their argument.
I had heard that too...but last night i then heard the FL AG Dept does INDEED do NICS checks.

I'm glad Wisconsin Started issuing CCW Permits to its Resident's. Now if Illinois would get thier butts moving, and do the same for thier Resident's.

Thanks for the info. I will apply for an AZ one soon. It is a need for us to go to WI at least once a year for the AirVenture. I wouldn't want to be caught with my pants down there without a permit.
