Since Indiana’s passing of a “guns in cars” bill that prevented employers from terminating employees for keeping guns in the car, employers now are asking employees about gun ownership. In some cases they are even requesting make, model, and serial numbers under threat of terminating the employee. SB 411 will end this practice.

State Rep. Sean Eberhart, R-Shelbyville, the sponsor of the legislation, said the proposal follows the 2010 law allowing a worker to store guns in his or her vehicle while at work.
Eberhart said some Indiana employers since have required workers to disclose the serial numbers and locations of guns stored in vehicles on company property. This measure would prohibit such questions, he said.
“I feel it is important to protect the employee nondiscrimination rights of Hoosiers, especially when they choose to exercise their Second Amendment rights,” Eberhart said.
