Please read the entire story before you get upset they arrested this guy for carrying a firearm somewhere he wasn’t supposed to. He faces felony charges after police caught him with a handgun at the Chicago Auto Show. Like most major event venues in Illinois, McCormick Place, where the auto show is, is a gun-free zone.
Oscar Luiz, a 22-year-old from Ft. Wayne, Indiana, dropped his handgun while walking around the Ford booth. The gun also had a laser, which is against the law in Chicago. Luiz picked up the gun and put it in his waistband, which, go figure, had no belt and no holster from the looks of it. Someone who saw Luiz drop it on the floor contacted security and told them what was happening.
The witness led an off-duty Cook County state’s attorney investigator working as security to Luiz. Luiz tried to run away, but the police officer caught him and took his gun.
Prosecutors say that Luiz had been sentenced to 364 days in jail in 2019 for carrying a gun without a license in Indiana. He is facing charges of unlawful use of a weapon because of his car show screw-up.
After Luiz paid a $1000 bail deposit, the judge let him return to Indiana to wait for his trial.

I don’t believe McCormick Place should be a gun-free zone, but Luiz was convicted of a weapons charge he did time for in Indiana. The gun he was carrying in McCormick Place had a laser, which is illegal in Chicago, and even if he had an Indiana permit, there is no reciprocity with Illinois. All of that, and he gets to go back to another state after paying a whopping thousand dollars.
Luiz, for you, I have some advice. You should have bought a holster and a belt because your pants were ready to fall off. Also, thanks to people like you, it is harder for the rest of us to carry legally.
