Oregon Concealed Handgun License (CHL)
Oregon requires individuals to obtain a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) to legally carry a concealed handgun. Oregon operates under a “shall issue” policy, meaning county sheriffs must issue permits to applicants who meet the state requirements.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for an Oregon CHL, applicants must:
- Be at least 21 years old
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Have completed an approved handgun safety course
- Not have any disqualifying criminal convictions
- Not be prohibited from possessing a firearm under state or federal law
Training Requirements
Accepted handgun training includes:
- NRA-certified handgun safety courses
- Law enforcement or military firearms training

Application Process
