INDIANAPOLIS, IN — A swift and coordinated effort by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) detectives and officers led to the arrest of 19-year-old Bryant Hoskins on Wednesday. Hoskins is suspected of involvement in a violent shooting and carjacking incident that occurred early Wednesday morning, as well as a separate carjacking earlier in the month.
The events leading to Hoskins’s arrest began just after midnight in the 8100 block of E. 36th Street. IMPD East District officers responded to reports of a woman shot during an armed robbery. The victim, whose name has not been released, told officers that her vehicle and firearm were stolen, and that she was shot as she attempted to defend herself.
Following the incident, East District officers swiftly located the carjacked vehicle. Detectives from the IMPD Aggravated Assault Unit and the IMPD Covert Robbery Unit, along with the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Upon reviewing similarities between this incident and another carjacking that occurred on May 24 in the 7900 block of E. 38th Street, detectives utilized several investigative techniques to quickly track down Hoskins as he entered an apartment nearby. Officers surrounded the location, resulting in Hoskins’s capture without further incident.
A search warrant executed on Hoskins’s residence and the recovered vehicle led to the discovery of the initial victim’s firearm and items belonging to the victim of the May 24 carjacking. Additionally, detectives found a second firearm modified with a machine gun conversion device in Hoskins’s possession.
Hoskins faces charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed robbery, possession of a machine gun, and theft of a firearm. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine the final charges.
