CHICAGO, IL – A robbery attempt ended fatally for the assailant in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood early this morning, following a shootout with a 60-year-old concealed carry license holder. According to Chicago police, the incident occurred near the 1500 block of West 82nd Street, just before 5:30 a.m.
The intended victim was using an ATM when approached by a man on a bicycle who demanded his property while brandishing a firearm. The victim, legally possessing a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card and a Concealed Carry License (CCL), drew his weapon, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the two.
The assailant, who has yet to be identified, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Following the incident, the victim sought help at a Marathon gas station on 81st and Ashland, suffering from gunshot wounds to his back and left arm. He was taken to Christ Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene by the Chicago Police Department, which continues to investigate the shooting.
Drawing from the drop can be very risky. No matter how fast your draw is, it isn’t faster than simply pulling the trigger. Thankfully, the victim wasn’t fatally wounded in this incident. Can’t say as much for the suspect.
