ATLANTA, GA — Police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Sunday night in Atlanta’s Summerhill neighborhood. The incident, which took place during a party, left one man dead and raised questions about a possible attempted robbery.
Officers responded to a call at approximately 9:30 p.m. reporting a shooting. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered a man in his 20s who had been shot and killed. The deceased individual has not yet been identified by authorities.
Local media reported that Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach spoke with the shooter, who identified himself only as “Joe.” According to Joe, the shooting was in self-defense, and he is not currently facing charges. Joe explained that he and his roommate had invited a friend over to watch football when the situation took a dangerous turn.
Joe recounted that two other individuals showed up at the house and one of them brandished a gun. “I told them to leave. They left with no contest. When I turn around, there’s a barrel of a gun to my face,” Joe said. He described how his roommate wrestled the gunman to the ground, giving Joe the opportunity to act. “They separated, and I opened fire in self-defense,” Joe added, noting that the alleged robber still had a gun in hand during the confrontation.
The police have not yet released additional details about what led to the shooting but confirmed that the homeowner had fired the fatal shot during the party.
