NEW ORLEANS, LA – A carjacking attempt was thwarted early on January 26 when the intended victim, exercising his right to armed self-defense, shot the assailant multiple times. This incident unfolded in New Orleans East, around 2 a.m. in the 7300 block of Chef Menteur Highway.
The New Orleans Police Department reported a 23-year-old man approached the victim’s vehicle, attempted to pull open the door, and demanded the victim get out. In a decisive response to this immediate threat, the victim, an adult male, drew his firearm and shot the carjacker multiple times.
The suspect was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment. Following his recovery, he faces impending charges of attempted first-degree robbery. The NOPD confirmed that the victim, who effectively defended himself in a critical situation, will not be facing any charges.
