CHICAGO, IL – In a tense confrontation that underscores the dangers of attempting to disarm an armed assailant, a 49-year-old man was shot in the torso during a robbery attempt in a Chicago park. The incident, which is now under investigation by Area Three detectives, occurred when the victim was approached by an unknown male wielding a handgun.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the confrontation took place while the victim was standing near a tree in the park. The assailant produced a handgun and announced a robbery, prompting the victim to grab the weapon in an attempt to defend himself. This struggle led to the firearm being discharged, resulting in the victim sustaining a gunshot wound to the torso.
Following the incident, the victim was urgently transported to St. Joseph Hospital by a friend. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Ill Masonic Hospital where he is currently listed in fair condition.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attempted robbery and shooting, emphasizing the risks associated with confronting armed criminals.
