An unsuspecting family’s vacation trip to Little Rock, Arkansas took a horrifying turn when they were attacked in a River Market garage. However, the pregnant wife demonstrated remarkable courage and quick-thinking, using her concealed carry weapon to neutralize the threat and protect her family.
The family, residents of Memphis, were in Little Rock to celebrate their daughter’s seventh birthday, planning to visit a local water park and the zoo. Their vacation plans were abruptly interrupted when 37-year-old Markevious King attacked the family in the parking garage.
In an unprovoked assault, King tackled the husband to the ground, striking him multiple times. He then advanced towards the pregnant wife in the driver’s seat, assaulting her as well. The husband sustained a fractured rib, while the wife bore multiple contusions on her forehead from the assailant’s blows.
After being attacked, the pregnant wife drew her pistol, firing a single shot that struck King in the head or neck area. This swift action resulted in King’s incapacitation, according to the police report.
Reflecting on the incident, the husband stated:
“We never know what he was really planning… trying to kidnap our girls or just trying to steal the car.”
Gratitude for his wife’s preparedness resonated in his words.
At the time of reporting, King is in critical condition.
While the family are residents of Tennessee, it remains unclear whether the wife held a concealed carry permit from their home state, or whether she was carrying under the provisions of Arkansas’s constitutional carry law. This law permits both residents and non-residents to carry concealed in Arkansas, emphasizing the relevance of understanding such laws and regulations, particularly in self-defense situations.
Despite the traumatic incident, the family remains undeterred.
“We live in Memphis, and this kind of thing happens to people out here all the time,” the husband said. “We do like to travel.”
As the family recovers from this event, their story provides a stark reminder of the importance of self-defense awareness and preparedness, especially when travelling. It also highlights the significance of understanding interstate concealed carry laws, as they may provide essential protection in unexpected situations.
I don’t mean to criticize, but was she watching her husband get beaten? If so, and she sat through that an her own beating before she shot Mr. Markevious, I think, if she were my wife, she might have another whooping coming. At least some loud colorful language. Sheesh.
Could have been the gun was in the car and she had to get into the car to retrieve it, thus accounting for the delay in the rightful shooting.
If you travel, don’t go to New jersey with any type weapon, CCpermit from your state or not.
