Florida Gov. Rick Scott said the City of Tampa was overreaching in its request for a firearms ban during the convention in all of downtown.
“You are now requesting that citizens be disarmed in all of downtown Tampa, including in areas across the river, and distant, from the convention center and Secret Service safe zone,” Scott wrote in his denial. He went on to say “it is unclear how disarming law-abiding citizens would better protect them from the dangers and threats posed by those who would flout the law. It is at just such times that the constitutional right to self-defense is most precious and must be protected from government overreach.”
