The home that a Dekalb County, GA, man shares with four other people was invaded by four perpetrators ranging in age from 15 to 30 years old on November 25, 2022.
In what appears to be a targeted attack, police said that there was an “exchange of gunfire” with one of the residents as the criminals attempted the home invasion. Police arrived to find the three youngest perpetrators (15 – 23 years old) wounded. All three had serious injuries upon admission into the hospital, and at least one of the suspects was critical. One of these three men later died of his injuries.
Police said that later, another man, the oldest of the four, appeared at the hospital, also wounded by a gunshot.
All three survivors were arrested, with all most likely to receive felony murder charges (their actions brought about the death of their cohort) and additional home invasion charges to be brought against the two adults.
It is rare to see a defender manage to shoot this many intruders, as oftentimes, the invaders tend to retreat when shots are fired at them. It would be safe to suspect that the resident was quite proficient with his firearm and likely had some training. Also, these criminals may have been more brazen than others, as they attempted this home invasion during daylight hours.
