Philadelphia police reported that a homeowner shot a man who attempted to break into his home in the early hours of Monday morning. According to police reports, the 60-year-old intruder was trying to smash through a back window when the homeowner shot him in self-defense.
The intruder was hit in the chest and backside and was taken to the hospital in stable condition. While it’s not clear why the intruder targeted that particular home or what his intentions were, the homeowner had the right to protect himself from an intruder who was breaking a window to gain access.
It’s important to note, however, that shooting someone who is fleeing or no longer poses a threat is not justified. If the intruder was shot in the backside while running away, it could raise questions about the homeowner’s use of force.
Regardless of the circumstances, the incident highlights the importance of being prepared to defend oneself in a life-threatening situation. It’s not always possible to predict when or where danger may strike, but having the means and knowledge to protect oneself can make all the difference.
