Jewelry Store Owner Opens Fire on Smash-and-Grab Robbers

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – In a daylight robbery attempt on October 6, 2023, a band of five hooded suspects descended upon Prestige Jewelers at approximately 12:40 PM, brandishing hammers to shatter the jewelry showcases. However, they were met with resistance as an alert employee drew a firearm and fired at the assailants, causing them to flee hastily from the premises. The suspects made their escape in awaiting vehicles, last seen speeding south on Sepulveda Boulevard.

The Manhattan Beach Mayor had this to say in a press release:

“In a time when the community is grieving the loss of one of our own heroes, our number one priority remains steadfast in keeping the entire City of Manhattan Beach safe,” said Mayor Richard Montgomery. “We are grateful for the assistance from the Gardena and El Segundo Police Departments who have stepped up to assist our Police Department to apprehend the offenders involved in this crime.”
