In another edition of “Why we carry”…
A man is in jail after attacking a Canadian mosque this past Saturday. Luckily, no one was injured.
Just before the sun rose this past Saturday, about 20 congregants of the Dar Al-Tawheed Islamic Centre gathered for their dawn prayer. Just about 5-minutes into the prayer, a man came in wielding an ax, carrying numerous other sharp-edged weapons and bear spray.
He started spraying the people in the back of the congregation. But before anyone could get hurt, a few of the congregants acted swiftly and tackled the suspect.
“There was one young congregant who immediately noticed the [ax in the man’s] hand and immediately knocked it off to the ground,” Noorani Sairally said. “And then that’s when everybody kind of jumped on him to wrestle him to the ground.” via The Washington Post.
The congregants were able to restrain him until the police arrived. The suspect has been charged with assault with a weapon, administering a toxic substance with the intent to danger life or cause a bodily wound, possession of a weapon for a hazardous purpose, uttering menaces, carrying a hidden weapon, and mischief to religious property.
Thankfully, no one was hurt due to the quick action taken by members of the congregation.
