GENESEO, IL – Springfield Armory has introduced a new addition to its lineup of high-performance firearms: the 1911 DS Prodigy™ Comp AOS 9mm pistols. Announced on July 30, 2024, these new models bring together the classic features of the beloved 1911 platform with modern advancements, including double-stack capacity and an integrated compensator.
Key Features of the Prodigy Comp AOS
The 1911 DS Prodigy Comp AOS pistols are available in both 5” and 4.25” barrel lengths. These firearms are distinguished by their integral compensator, discreetly designed with a single port on the top of the hammer-forged slide and barrel. The compensator redirects gas upwards, significantly reducing muzzle rise and felt recoil, which enhances control and allows for quicker follow-up shots. This innovative feature positions the Prodigy Comp as an excellent choice for both competitive shooters and those seeking a reliable home defense firearm.
Another highlight is the tritium front sight, strategically placed behind the compensator for an uninterrupted sight picture. This ensures that users can maintain clear visibility of their target, even in low-light conditions.
Enhanced Design and Capacity
The Prodigy Comp pistols maintain the traditional feel of a 1911 but offer the modern advantage of increased capacity. The double-stack design allows for 17+1 and 20+1 round capacities, with an optional 26-round magazine available for purchase. The polymer grip module is mounted to a forged steel frame, providing a robust yet comfortable hold.
In addition to its impressive capacity, the Prodigy Comp AOS pistols are equipped with the Agency Optic System (AOS). This collaboration with Agency Arms provides compatibility with today’s most popular red dot optics. The optic plates, which include a HEX Dragonfly-compatible plate, ensure a proper optic height for an intuitive sight picture and immediate target acquisition. Other optic-specific plates are also available for purchase.
Availability and Pricing
Both the 5” and 4.25” models of the 1911 DS Prodigy Comp AOS 9mm pistols are priced at $1,599. For those in restricted locales, 10-round variants are also available at the same price point. Each pistol comes with two magazines — a 17-round flush fit and a 20-round extended.
Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing at Springfield Armory, highlighted the appeal of the new models, stating, “The flat-shooting Prodigy Comp adds the benefit of reduced muzzle flip and faster follow-up shots to an already highly capable design.”
