Longview, TX – On June 16, 2024, a series of events in Longview, Texas, ended with the fatal shooting of a suspect by a homeowner after the suspect broke into two homes following a hit-and-run crash.
At approximately 12:38 a.m., Longview Police responded to a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of George Richey and Fenton Road. Officers discovered one individual trapped in an SUV while the driver of the other vehicle had fled the scene on foot, according to witnesses.
About 20 minutes later, police received a call regarding a criminal trespass at a home in the 3600 block of Stracener. The homeowner reported that a man attempted to enter his house but fled when confronted by the armed resident. Officers began investigating the incident while others continued to handle the crash scene.
Shortly thereafter, another call came in from a resident in the 3600 block of Clemens Road. The homeowner reported that a person had entered their home and had been shot by the resident. Responding officers arrived and immediately attempted life-saving measures on the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Johan Nino of Longview. Nino was transported by Longview Fire EMS but later died from his injuries.
Investigators believe that Nino was the driver who fled the initial crash scene and subsequently attempted to break into homes before being shot by the homeowner on Clemens Road. The Police Department will continue its investigation, but no criminal charges are being filed against anyone else at this time.

The suspect, after causing a hit-and-run accident, attempted to break into multiple homes. In both cases, the homeowners were armed, and their preparedness likely prevented further harm.
