I knew there had to be more to the story than what the local news reported back in February involving a guy who shot two dogs in what he claimed was self-defense. The story culminated in SWAT responding and searching for the CCL holder who had gone back into his home.
Around one in the afternoon, February 7th, close to Wrigley Field in Chicago, a 53-year-old man shot two dogs. Despite not being on a leash, the barking dog’s owner claims she told the man they wouldn’t harm him.
The dogs followed the 53-year-old man around a corner and down the alley. The 53-year-old had his concealed carry license and told police, “The dogs advanced towards him in an aggressive manner.” He fired multiple shots, hitting both dogs. After shooting the dogs, he went into a nearby building, and that’s when all hell broke loose. SWAT showed up and went looking for the guy. One dog died, and the second one underwent surgery for gunshot wounds. Police did not file charges against the CCL holder, and the dog’s owners took the surviving dog home today.
There is a video interview of a lady who tried to care for one of the dogs, and she looks to have gotten bitten in the face.
I have been sitting on this story, hoping to find out why it took so long for SWAT to find him, but no more details were ever released. The man attempted to get away, and the dogs followed. It’s not like these were two tiny little poodles, and they were large enough that they could have seriously hurt the man who says he defended himself. The bottom line is the dog’s owners could have avoided this had they kept the dogs on a leash and under control. This was a tragic situation for everyone involved.
