A person in Illinois was partying over the weekend and got attacked by two men when he left around 4 AM. He fought back, then ran to a nearby house, but instead of beating on the door, he tried to break in. At that point, the victim became the intruder, and a person inside shot him as he attempted to gain entry.
An anonymous person called 911 and reported someone was screaming for help. When police showed up, they found a man lying in the yard with a gunshot wound to his leg and transported him to the emergency room.
The guy was a victim of one crime, but he became the intruder minutes later, trying to get into someone’s home. You have to wonder why he didn’t try to get the homeowner’s attention so they could get help instead of busting their door down.
Breaking into a house in the middle of the night is a pretty bad idea, and he’s lucky the person was a lousy shot. The homeowner stated they thought someone was breaking in, but the thing is, he really was breaking in, and most people inside a home would probably do the same thing.
Police reported the man didn’t want to take anything, and he was “seeking safety.” Why the police received the anonymous call and not one from the shooter is a mystery. The attackers, the victim, nor the homeowner got arrested, and no charges were filed. The police could have done a few things, but everyone got off lucky because all they did was take the gun.
