At a packed public hearing at the state Capitol on Thursday, supporters and opponents weighed in on a bill all that would allow residents to carry concealed weapons.
Republican legislators are pushing two measures allowing concealed carry. One bill requires a permit to carry a concealed weapon and the other bill doesn’t, and neither requires training. Rep. Jeff Mursau, a Crivitz Republican, chief author of both proposals, began a standing-room-only public hearing before the Assembly’s criminal justice committee that people must be allowed to defend themselves.
Even some law enforcement officials are diverging over whether the proposed legislation is good policy, and they shared their thoughts with lawmakers Thursday.
