Well, it is that time year. Everyone is talking about what to get everyone else for Christmas. I figured I might as well get on the bandwagon with my own take. I scoured the internet looking for four things every truly cool guy (or gal) needs that cost less than $100, even if barely.
Shivworks Clinch Pick
Pokey stabby things are always handy, but just another knife won’t do it. Instead, I am going Shivworks Clinch Pick. Shivworks just came out with a 2.0 version of the Clinch Pick, but we will stick with the original to stay within budget.
If you aren’t familiar with the Clinch Pick, it is a purpose-built reverse edge knife intended for self-defense. It is the brainchild of Craig Douglas, who is probably the go-to guy, or at least one of the go-to guys, for weapons integration. He comes from a career in law enforcement and currently travels around the country teaching his ECQC and EWO classes. Craig knows a thing or two about fighting and bringing weapons into the fight. His knife is well built to work in that capacity. Or you can use it to cut open Amazon boxes like most people probably do.
ITS Bleeding Management Kit
Since we just bought a knife, we should probably follow that up with some medical. We are bound to need it, even if all we do with that knife is open a few boxes.
There are a lot of options out there for medkits. One of my personal favorites is the PHLster PEW, but I thought maybe something a little more would suit us better here. I turned to Imminent Threat Solutions and their Bleeding Management Kit. It is a fairly comprehensive kit, so don’t forget the training. The kit is available with either the SOFTT-wide or the latest generation of CAT, depending on which you prefer. It comes in a vacuum-sealed package, and is easily stashed wherever someone might think a good place for that type of kit is (ahem, range bag maybe).
Surefire G2X LE
Everyone knows you can’t be on the cool guy list without a high output tactical light. Bonus points if it is Surefire. Mega bonus for Modlite. Sadly, our budget won’t get us to the latest and greatest Surefire or Modlite lights, but maybe the Surefire G2X Law Enforcement will get us close enough. Hey, at least it is still a Surefire.
Here is the thing about most tactical lights, CR-123 batteries are expensive, so the hope is that the G2X LE’s low mode will come in handy to stretch those batteries. Whenever we aren’t fending off ninjas, or zombies, or zombie ninjas, we can use that low mode to just sip the juice off the batteries instead of guzzle it. When we need to crank it up, the 600 lumens are on tap. Oh, and hey, it is cheap enough to be paired with an RCS pocket clip to round out the functionality of the light and still be under $100.
Vertx Tourist Sling Bag
What could be left? Oh, we need a bag. Definitely. We can stash that medkit in it, a few extra batteries, a couple of spare magazines, and whatever our favorite backup blaster is for when those ninja zombies show up. We need a bag that is inconspicuous most of the time, but ready to fight from. I think the Vertx Tourist Sling bag is the Goldilocks option here. Priced right, can accept Vertx’s modular pouch system, and can even convert to a sorta chest rig in a pinch.

I think that pretty much has us set. We have checked all the right boxes. What would you guys put on your cool guy gift list for less than $100? Drop your answers in the comments.
