A Chicago man was sitting in his car earlier this morning in North Austin, a residential area of Chicago, IL. A man walked up to his vehicle around 1:25 AM in an attempt to carjack him.
The suspect opened fire at the victim. What he didn’t realize was the car owner had an Illinois concealed carry permit and a gun. The victim returned fire and hit the suspect in the chest. The suspect was taken to a local hospital and is in critical condition. The victim was unharmed.
Most of the carjacking stories we cover here involve the suspects using a firearm to put fear into the owner to then give up their car or their possessions. This one started with the suspect just opening fire which is scary. Getting in and out of your car is considered a transitional space. You need to remember this and not have your head in your phone or occupied with other things. Luckily, the victim in this story acted quickly and put rounds on target to stop the threat before he could be injured or worse.
