It’s that time of the year again. Criminals are on the prowl for free Christmas presents. Just yesterday, I reported on a thief that opened fire on a FedEx driver who then returned fire, killing the suspect.
Well, earlier this week, a man was working in his house when he looked out of his front window to see three teenagers opening packages and stealing the contents of his neighbor’s house across the street.
“They opened the box, took out the content and threw the packing box down on the ground and took off walking down the street,” Rockwood said. via WAVE3 NEWS
The man apparently had enough and decided to take matters into his own hands. He grabbed his gun, got into his truck and followed the suspects who then ran down an alley. The armed citizen confronted them and told them he had a gun. It is unclear whether he had the gun drawn or just showed that he had one.
Two of the suspects fled while the other laid on the ground. The man held the suspect until police arrived on the scene. Within a few hours, all three suspects were arrested.
Police Chief Barry Wilkerson said, “If you don’t feel comfortable doing that, don’t do it,” Wilkerson said. “He did feel comfortable in that situation. It’s great that he was willing to, you know, put his own life kind of at risk to help others.”

While I completely understand the man’s frustrations with the “porch pirates,” as they are being called, I wouldn’t grab my gun and go chasing suspects over an Amazon package. It just isn’t worth it. You’ve got to pick and choose your battles. And that isn’t one I’m willing to risk my life over. What do you think? Sound off in the comments below.
