Things can take a turn for the worst anywhere at any time. I’ve said this many times before and will say it again. You should always be carrying a gun, not just when you “think” you’ll need a gun. And this incident out of Houston, TX, is a perfect example of why.
A man was working outside of his home when he noticed a black 4-door car drive by slowly and then made a u-turn back towards his house. This is the first sign that things could be going awry.
Then two men jumped out of the car, armed with guns, and proceeded to drag the man inside while demanding money.
The man’s wife heard the commotion and grabbed a gun. She came out of the bedroom and pointed the gun at the two men, who then turned and shot towards her and ran away. via ABC13.
Luckily, the wife was not hit by any of the shots, and the husband was not seriously injured during the attack. Police are still looking for the three suspects.
So what can we learn from this?
Well, as I said, things can take a turn for the worse extremely fast. As you can see from the video, this happened in broad daylight. That is why you should always have a gun on you. Do you carry a gun when you are out doing yard work? I’d bet a lot of you don’t. I’m guilty of it myself, but incidents like these help remind us of why we should.
Secondly, does your significant other know how to access your guns and how to use them? If not, this is something you should sit down and discuss. After ten years of being with my wife, I was finally able to convince her to go shooting with me and then sent her to a women’s defensive course. And guess what? Now she’s hooked and loves shooting. But more importantly, she knows how to defend herself if needed.
Also, if you have CCW insurance, look into adding your spouse to the plan as well. I’ve been a member of the USCCA since 2007. And after my wife took her handgun course, I upgraded my membership to include her for a small fee.
Lastly, I’d like to talk about security cameras. Security cameras are very prevalent now, being that they are reasonably affordable and easy to set up. But what I’m noticing is that many of them don’t have good quality. When I come across incidents like this that are caught on video, faces are often very blurry, making it hard to identify the suspects. In this case, one of the suspects had a mask on, but the other two did not. But their faces are blurry and very hard to make out. Also, with a better camera, the license plate would have been able to be read, but in this case, the numbers and letters are just a blur. So these suspects are likely to roam free to attack other innocent citizens again.
