In what is described as a Fourth of July barbecue that took a wrong turn, a woman is lucky to be alive and her attacker, her 22-year-old son, is deceased.
Witnesses in a North Harris County, TX neighborhood stated to police that a mother and her son were outside barbecuing on the Fourth of July when it “took a bad turn.” Some noted that the son began acting weird. The pair went inside, where the son injured his mother as she was bleeding from the face.
It seems that gunshots rang out from inside the apartment. Some of the bullets went through the neighbor’s door and narrowly missed a 16-year-old girl. The mother managed to get out of the apartment and hid behind a tree.
Meanwhile, a neighbor noticed what was going on and armed himself. It seems that the armed neighbor and suspect may have exchanged gunfire, but neither was hit. The suspect then found his mother and shot her at point-blank range while standing over with what was described as an AK-47-style rifle.
That’s when the armed neighbor shot and killed the suspect. The police applied two tourniquets to the mother and then transported her to the hospital, where she would luckily survive her injuries.
We talk about whether or not you should involve yourself in someone else’s confrontation, but this seems to be a clear-cut story of when an armed citizen should step in and save a life. Tragically, the man attacking the woman was her son, and she will have to deal with that for the rest of her life. But at least she is alive.
This is also another great reason to have medical supplies on you. The two tourniquets that were applied to her before getting to the hospital likely saved her life.
