A robber got more than he bargained for this past Wednesday night. This criminal approached a man in the parking lot of a shopping center. Armed with a revolver, he demanded the man’s belongings, reported Clarksville Now.
Instead of giving up his belongings, this armed citizen drew his own gun and shot the suspect in the knee. The wounded man ran off and was found in front of a hotel by police. He was then transported to a hospital and is expected to recover. Just in time to get charged for armed robbery, maybe?
While this worked out well for the armed citizen in this incident, there’s a couple of things I’d like to touch on.
It generally isn’t a good idea to draw from the drop. And if you don’t know what that means, it means drawing your own handgun when you have a handgun pointed at you. You can find numerous videos of actual self-defense incidents online with outcomes that didn’t turn out so well for the victim that drew their firearm with one pointed at them.
Without footage of this actual incident, we can’t know exactly what happened. Did he wait for a moment when the suspect was distracted or didn’t have his gun pointed at him? Who knows. All we know is that it turned out well for the victim this time.
And secondly, with a gun drawn on you and someone demanding your belongings (e.g., keys, wallet, etc.), you need to decide whether or not it is worth getting into a gunfight over the property. Everyone needs to make their own decision as to when they are willing to use their firearm in self-defense. Are you willing to risk your life over your wallet or vehicle? That’s something you need to think about before you get into a situation like this.
