This self-defense shooting might not be that newsworthy except for the fact it is the second in less than 24 hours in Chicago. At the beginning of last month, I wrote an article about how many times a defensive gun shooting had happened in Chicago since the beginning of 2021. It was 46, but after last weekend the number has now broken the 50 mark. That’s an average of one every week and a half that has made the news.
Sunday afternoon, an armed criminal attempted to rob a beauty supply store on Chicago’s South side. Police say a 58-year-old man tried to rob the business armed with a gun, and that’s when someone in the store shot him in the chin. The offender got off a couple of shots, but no one was hit, and he was last listed in serious condition.
Like many metropolitan cities, people are going through the proper process of arming themselves. As most people know, Illinois and Chicago have some of the strictest gun laws in the country. You are required to have a Firearm’s Identification Card (FOID) just to purchase ammunition, let alone own a gun.
CBS News reported, “The victim was transported to Christ Hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the chin.”
Hey CBS, hopefully, you made a mistake in your choice of words because the “criminal” isn’t the “victim”!
